The computer repair place is closed today, so I haven't inquired about whether or not thy can replace/repair my network card. The external hard drive I bought online turns out to be an internal hard drive. I'm going to keep it in case anyone needs a hard drive

Depending on the capacity of the hd and whether it's worth it to you or not, you actually should be able to get an external hard drive enclosure for ~$20.
