The trouble with having friends

Sep 12, 2011 20:49

It had been a long day for Bobby. He'd spent most of it being bored out of his mind like usual in this Land Before Electronics. Even the snow lingering outside hadn't placated him. There had been a couple good hours spent with Jubilee, who was now one of his best friends since Rogue left him and John was nowhere to be found, but she had gone on to ( Read more... )

He had alot of questions, but right then, Logan refrained from asking them. Instead, he paid notice to what effect the fall-out between Bobby and John Allerdyce was doing to him.

Logan had never really been particularly good with people, and up until he found Rogue in his trailer up in the Alberta Rockies, it was a pretty safe bet that he really had no experience with kids. But, it didn't take long for him to realize that he understood them better any of the adults at Xavier's. And it didn't matter what year they were in.

Looking at the young man standing not too far from him, he angled his head down, and reached his hand out to place on Bobby's shoulder.

"Don't be sorry. Just tell me what made you hurl the snowball in the first place. Weren't you guys friends?"

Feeling Logan's hand on his shoulder made him flinch slightly out of nerves, but was quickly comforting. Bobby sighed into it and moved a little closer, finding the man's presence and concern soothing. Until he was asked a question.

"Yeah, we were." Bobby replied, his tone rather bitter. "That's what made me do it. John's pretending like the only thing in the world that matters to him is this Brotherhood and Magento's approval. Like we never even were friends."

Bobby sighed again. "I guess it doesn't matter. I mean, I shouldn't care so much. But the look on his face... You ever wanted to wipe the attitude off someone's face with your fist?"

It was probably a rhetorical question and Bobby moved on. "I wanted to blast him in the back again while he was leaving." Admitting that made him feel a little better, as it got it out in the open, but he was still embarrassed to give voice to how deep his anger went.

Logan listened. Not just because he had to, but because he wanted to. He was becoming all too aware of the tension in the house, and Bobby seemed to be suffering the worst.

"People change." Logan pointed out. "Not much you can do about it. They come and go, and sometimes they come back. Which, yeah, makes it kind of hard."

That was another thing he came to find out easily enough. He had Victor in his life again, which came with a helluva lot of feelings. Mostly bad ones, the kind that make you wonder if you can trust them. Logan's gut told him to be careful, but his gut instincts had been wrong before.

"And if you did? What would you have done if you hurt him?"

A reasonable question to ask.

"Truthfully." he added.

Logan's words weren't making Bobby feel much better, but he appreciated that Logan could relate to it anyway. If Logan thought it was hard, that made Bobby feel slightly affirmed in reacting as bad as he did. That he wasn't just being stupid ( ... )
