Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

For charity, of course!

Okay, so I know catcvt posted about this already. But since I am participating also, I thought I'd post as well.

Operation Swandive 2007 is a fundraiser to benefit Lyrics for Life. The event will occur on August 25-27. The first portion of the event will occur at Skydive Pepperell, in Pepperell, MA. If I can raise a minimum of $1,500 I will do a tamdem jump (hopefully without humiliating myself). Jumps will occur on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators will be welcome, as well. In addition to the funds raised by the jumpers, there will also be raffles, and live acoustic music courtesy of Sister Hazel and Goodmorning Chester. Following the jumps in Pepperell, there will also be a gala in Boston on Sunday, August 26th.

As I mentioned, this event was organized to raise money for Lyrics for Life. But what exactly does this organization do?

WHO ARE WE?
Lyrics for Life is a non-profit organization that unites musicians and celebrities for a series of concerts and auctions. These events raise awareness of serious illnesses such as cancer in children and adults, fund researchers working to find a cure and to enrich the lives of patients and their families. Lyrics for Life is the brainchild of Sister Hazel frontman, Ken Block. What started as a tribute to his younger brother, Jeffrey, who ultimately lost his four year battle against cancer, has become an industry-wide commitment to fight against cancer.

WHAT DO WE DO?
Not all medicine comes in a bottle...sometimes, it comes on stage. From South Florida to Boston, all the way to Colorado, we host concerts and events that raise money and awareness. Guests are treated to gourmet dinners, intimate acoustic musical performances and access to our silent auctions, featuring creatively framed lyrics handwritten by musicians across the country. Some of the supporting artists include Aerosmith, Faith Hill, Lisa Loeb, Elton John, Alanis Morisette, Gavin DeGraw, Jewel, Matchbox 20, Shawn Mullins, Sister Hazel, Hootie & The Blowfish, Michelle Branch, Beastie Boys, REM, Barenaked Ladies, Tim McGraw, Paul Simon, The Bangles, Goo Goo Dolls, Mick Fleetwood, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Train, Dixie Chicks, Edwin McCain, Richard Marx and Tony Bennett.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL?
We work hard to find creative ways to raise money and find deserving places for it to go. Our goal is to do more than fight the disease. We strive to help heal the whole person. And to do that, we seek out organizations who share our passion and help fulfill our mission. The more charities we give to, the more widespread our impact can be. That's why we search every city we visit looking for a local charity that will benefit from our support. We partner with organizations who are out there walking the walk in the relentless pursuit of a cure.
