I always find with icky things that it is best to go and see if there are more rather than hide worrying and not knowing! That way if there aren't any more you can mightily reclaim your kitchen, and if there are more you can set to work smiting them much more quickly!

I am sorry but upon the mention of "horrible carnival act" I just pictured a hilarious little larvae carnival with tiny horses and gypsy caravans and everything ~nothing constructive to contribute at all~
