So there is some dude that is saying "The Internet is the new Afghanistan." His argument is basically that terrorists are training over the internet and dissuading westerns to continue fighting. I've given a lot of thought to this because my parents always failed to understand how I could spend so much time on the computer, not realizing everything that can be accomplished with it. I think you're right about older generations considering "the internet" to be a "thing." I think the main difference here is that our generation sees the internet as several things. We have grown up using it as our news papers, our libraries (for research and,in my case, e-books), magazines, maps (directions), etc. As the internet matured we soon used it for music, movies, tv shows, and so much more. The internet has become our media Swiss Army knife, but I don't think earlier generations ever fully caught on to that. Sure, they use some or all of these functions, but certainly not to the extent that we do. To them it's still a second rate alternative. To us, it's the norm. While older generations are still willing to buy newspapers (at least, more than we are) and pay for cable television, the internet now meets those needs for our ( ... )
