i've always thought that it's a good way to avoid any action or resposibility in one's own life. it also allows us to take out our rage and idignation and moral furor (which seethes inside because of our contradictory and unharmonious views) on "idols" as it were, people we can expect to be perfect. movies stars don't even exist. they are false gods which we build up and destroy over and over again. such is the nature of fetishism, which is the dominant sentiment in a culture of people to spineless to stick up for themselves.
