I think a lot of it has to do with the economic circumstances and my own experience level - I'm really dying to break into some kind of entry-level programming job because programming is something I really enjoy, but I've never had one, and a lack of a CS degree on top of that probably turns a lot of prospective employers off. Of course, I can talk all I want about the various languages I've used and interesting projects I've worked on, but it's tough to get people's attention when you know there's like 30 other guys applying to the same job with more obvious qualifications.

We have a training program that basically just goes on forever until you're ready. (Training program is unpaid, though.)
