So you think management didn't really thought to solve the "rules vs community" equation? See, once in a while I fire people [just] to show that rules are indeed rules. (but my business is way different than the Arctic stuff)
I always wonder what is more valuable in those kinds of rules enforcement situation - the respect of the rules or the respect of the atmosphere in the team. And in such a tight team as yours the community value should overweight perhaps, no?
I wrote a long reply to this including a lot of details about the incident, the community, and company policy - but I'm not sure I should post it publicly.
It's been a long season and I haven't had the time or energy to do much writing. Thanks for thinking of me, though. Glad you've been enjoying Michael's blog. I've been enjoying it too. It reminds me of how exciting it was to be a fingee when I'm having some of my more exhausted days. :) I'll be out of here in a couple weeks, and I'm verymuch looking forward to it.
