Oh, my God.
Just finished HBP.
AAAAHHHHH!
There are so many things to say, I don't know where to start. *g* (I guess I'll start by resisting the urge to caplock this whole post. XD)
I'd best deal with the "bad news" first; that way, I end this post on a happier note.
First off, I felt absolutely wretched when I discovered Snape's true loyalties. I truly believed that he would be on Dumbledore's side, but apparently not. . . . He was spying on Dumbledore, telling Dumbledore that he was spying on Voldemort! Absolute fucking subterfuge. It truly disappointed me because Snape was always one of my favorite characters, and I truly hoped and believed that he was on Dumbledore's side all this time. And he's the Half-Blood Prince! Damn that.
Needless to say, when Dumbledore died at his hands, I truly wept. I felt like I couldn't go on reading.
Moving on to Dumbledore's death . . . I couldn't believe that he died! It just actually never crossed my mind that he would; to me, he was always omniscient and all-powerful . . . it just seemed ironic that he, the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared, died in the most horrible of ways . . . betrayed by someone he trusted. And what made it even more heart-breaking was that he was pleading before his death. I truly cried; I couldn't take it.
On a side note, I bid farewell to the ship that came close to being one of my OTP's: Severus/Hermione. I shall no longer be sailing onboard the S.S. Prudence and Potions, as I feel that the very foundations on which I placed my SS/HG love have been shattered.
Moving on again . . . Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione shippers must be rejoicing, what with Harry kissing Ginny all the time and the romantic tension between Ron and Hermione. However, the D/Hr shipper in me is rejoicing, which makes me move on to the happier parts of this review. :)
The "good news":
DRACO! SQUEEEE! :D
Alright, so he was still immature, but I saw much more character development . . . and he doesn't want to be on the Dark Side. SQUEEEEE! :D
But truly, I was reading furiously with bated breath when he was about to kill Dumbledore; when he couldn't do it, my heart just leapt, and I was screaming "YES!" inside. :D Almost exactly what I was hoping for had happened. While some people might interpret his inability to kill Dumbledore as cowardice, I see it more of a realization of his true stands and beliefs.
OH, my God.
DRAMIONE LIVES!!! :D SQUEEEEE!!!x9813571262! *g*
Oh, and I loved that Draco was shown to be much smarter and much more powerful in HBP. (Even if his powers weren't exactly used in the most noble of ways.) And him crying in the bathroom . . . Oh, my God. Draco! *sniff*
I hope that his realization that he cannot be a killer is stronger than his fear of Voldemort, and I hope to see him hale and whole in the 7th book, fighting alongside Harry, Ron, and most importantly, Hermione. ;)
I want to read new D/Hr fanfiction already. *g*
I like Blaise. Hee. :D
I didn't like Rufus Scrimgeour.
Fleur and Bill! Awww! :D I really warmed up to Fleur in the end. I was touched by her declaration of love for him, even when he was so badly scarred.
Harry's quidditch team captain! Yeah! :D
Lupin/Tonks? Don't exactly know what to think about that. I'm okay with them, I suppose.
I loved the insights into Voldemort's history.
Hermione seemed to take on more of a "backseat" role in HBP, which was okay with me, though I, of course, did want to see more of her, as she's one of my favorite characters. I liked her in this book. :)
As usual, I find that I rather dislike Ginny. *sigh* How I wish that Harry had hooked up with Luna instead. Sorry, H/G shippers. Don't mean to offend.
Liked the idea of Horcruxes, and loved the lake full of Inferi.
Absolutely loved the ending. Beautiful and bittersweet. And I liked that the mood of the book had definitely been less dark and less heavy than OotP.
Who in the world is R.A.B.?!
I noticed that the theme of the book seemed to be the revelation of truths. True love (Bill and Fleur), true friendship (the trio), true loyalties (Snape's and Draco's characters) . . .
Hm . . . that's about all I can ramble about for now. :)
In conclusion, my spoiler-free review of the book: I loved it. :D There were many parts that were heartbreaking, of course, but overall . . . I really enjoyed it. :) Even as I wept and wept and wept at the end.
AAAAAAHHHH! :D
*hugs icon* ;)
So, when's book 7 coming out? ;)
