episode splurge, doctor who 3.05

- dude, did they really just let the Doctor run off to play with a radio? And why is Dalek Sek (human version) answering him? Most importantly: WHY ARE THEY THE SAME HEIGHT. The Doctor and the first human Dalek should not be the same height.
- No, seriously, why are the Daleks so passive?
- "Pain, pain of the flesh as no Dalek has felt for [?] years"
- Carmina Burana music again = good.
- Conspiring head turn = very good. "Affirmative."
- Again, effective music. I'm just not sure the direction was all that effective in making it look like more than a few actors were shifting about confusedly rather than it being chaos. Hey, more ominous chaos!
- O, Solomon. I don't think you're a very good negotiator. Appealing to the Daleks via hope and mutual fright is not going to work out in your favor. "any compassion in your hearts"? Nope.
- EXTERMINATE! (What did you think, honestly.)
- ...what?
- "he's a genius, we can use him. The future of the Daleks might depend upon the Doctor." UNCONVINCING. Also, I think human Dalek Sek's breathy stilted voice is so, so not in line with my expectations of Dalek being.
- Hello, clunky exposition!
- This Dalek existential crisis would be so much better if it weren't so slowly paced. It's got good potential, but....
- Ugh, enough with the Rose thingie.
- Either the Doctor just tricked them but good (and we have a genocidal angy doctor and no more Daleks) or he's actually hopeful. (I want the first first but am probably going to get the second.)
- Last minute showdown! I really like how they call the pigmen "pig slaves."
- "You told us to imagine. We imagined your irrelevance."
- It's really times like this when it would be so convenient to have the TARDIS to materialize right next to the Dalekanium, no? But I guess if it's been acting erratic it's best not to try anything.
- "Slit your throat with their bare teeth"? Huh.
- Hooray for inappropriate Valley-Girlishness.
- Hooray for the failure of the Sonic Screwdriver.
- The army awakes. The army is all men. The Daleks may be squeamish about bodies, so are they just going to keep brain transfering? Weird, weird, weird.
- Yay for ethics on t.v.
- "I'll just tell them where I am." Simple, nice.
- Oops. There goes Dalek Sek.
- "Why? But why? But why?" Hooooooooray.
- OMG TIMELORD DNA! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! AND SOME OF THEM SURVIVED. OMG YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
- Um, shit. Nevermind.
- UM, NO. LAME LAME LAME. You do not fucking deal out the "emergency temporal shift," you assholes.
- Hooverville is such a bad cop-out. Why no travelling pigslave mutant Dalek and showgirl, too? Boo.

Overall: It was badly paced and the music and occasional visual awesomeness was not enough to undo the lameness that came all the wasted opportunities. I know other people have talked about the missing racial undertones and I think they could've easily been addressed in various scenes, maybe the one with Tallulah and Martha where they talk about her being a doctor. It would've been amazing if the Doctor had psyched the Daleks, screwed up their genetic coding and killed the army of Daleks, but no. Or if at least ONE of the Timelord/Dalek/Human soldiers had survived -- can you imagine that guy as a companion? AMAZING. I don't think this is one I'm going to be revisiting.
