(no subject)

Today I'm going to share something very special u_u I'm going show you how I get from this

to this

You'll want to start off by duplicating the first layer :D YEAH! Do that!

Next you'll want to use the little erase tool to clean up the background so that you just have your subject all by it's lonesome

During the next course of steps I'm going to be using the paintbrush tool, there's the option of using the fill tool... but.. umm... >_> I'm very meticulous and just do things the long way. SO ONWARD!

I'll start off with the skin, you'll want to create another layer. Set the blending option to Linear Burn, then proceed to colour. In this example, I used #FADBCD for colouring.

Next is the EYE! I'll refrain from making any weird jokes, honestly. We'll make a whole new layer for the eye, setting it to Linear Burn as well. Colour used was #007504

Eyepatch! You may be noticing a pattern from the last two steps, colour used was #DAE6F2

MOUTH! Again, we're repeating with a new layer, setting the blending option as Linear Burn, colour used #F5A6AD

Next we'll be working on the shirt collar, given that it's already shaded in I opted for making the blending option Screen before proceeding to colour with #094996

Last, but SO NOT least, the hair. I always save the hair for last when it comes to colouring since it's the part that requires the most.. umm... attention >_> Creating a new layer, I set the blending option to Screen before continuing to colour with #53016E. Afterwhich I will then resize the image to 100x100, standard icon size.

Next I'll be duplicating the layer that is the colouring for the hair twice over. I'll set the main layer to blending option Hard Light

Set the first duplicate's blending option as Screen with an opacity of 66%

The second duplicate's blending option will be set to Linear Burn with an opacity of 33%

Next we'll want to go back to the image of Natsuo, sans background, and duplicate that layer. After doing so we'll set the duplicate's blending option as Soft Light

FLATTEN IMAGES TIME! SMISH 'EM TOGETHER! XO

Now that we've got one layer, all coloured I'm going to want you to duplicate it... DUPLICATE IT I SAY! XO Now set the blending option of the duplicate to Soft Light

Now, we'll create a new layer between these two, set the blend option to Exclusion and fill that layer with #11192A I like to erase some of the layer around the white of the eyes to make it more.. Umm... I'll get back to you when I remember this word.

Now let's duplicate that first layer one more time, don't change the blending option though!

Now that you've got that duplicate going, go ahead and sharpen it... go ahead, do it, I'll wait.

Now that it's sharpened, set the layer opacity to 50% and all should be dandy.

Feel free to do whatever you want to the icon now, it is of the free! Let it run wild! Remember that this tutorial is more like guidelines, go ahead and play with the effects to your own liking to get what you want :D
