blessed sunrise | PG

Kyuhyun ; Ryeowook

“together and facing each new morning, we are truly blessed.”

Pictures. Letters. Smeared ink and teardrops filled the lyric sheet. In the dark of the night and with a voice that was like the angels, Kim Ryeowook sang with a passion and heartthrob that could not be felt by anyone who heard him. Not that anyone heard him.

And the only sadness that touched him was that the person whom he loved was no longer around to hear him sing that one song, the last song.

Cho Kyuhyun.

Ryeowook and Kyuhyun fell in love the first time Kyuhyun heard Ryeowook sang. A voice that was like the angels, that was the only word that Kyuhyun could think to use for the beautiful figure of a boy that was Ryeowook. They met at a simple coffee shop; Ryeowook was simply humming a tune while watching the sunrise when Kyuhyun had entered the shop with downcast eyes.

Kyuhyun could only fall in the soft, dark brown locks that fell into long lashes, framing a delicate face the colour of cream and a sweet, tiny smile that caught the light of the pink morning sky.

So with a dark espresso in his hand, Kyuhyun sat down beside that boy and offered Ryeowook a little of his coffee, his name, and a fearless request to remain together for as long as they lived.

Of course, Ryeowook was rather taken aback with the suddenness of the handsome stranger appearing in front of him, but smiled and asked Kyuhyun a question of his own.

Kyuhyun answered eagerly, and then presented another one of his own.

Before the end of the day, cups of coffee sat rather empty beside them, all of them sipped over hundreds questions were asked, answered, and followed up with another question. With the light of the moon spilling into the coffee shop and hands entwined, Kyuhyun’s first question was answered; not with words, but with the liquid lips of Ryeowook’s pressing gently onto his own.

The taste of the bitter coffee lingered sweet on Kyuhyun’s lips when they went home with a promise to find each other at the coffee shop the next day.

True enough, when Kyuhyun returned the next morning, he saw Ryeowook sitting in the coffee shop at exactly the same red plush sofa as they had found each other, watching the sunrise and humming with the voice of the angels.

And as the days went past, Ryeowook described each sunrise to Kyuyhun; each sunrise a little different from the others, a little more colour, a sparkle in the rays, a different cup of coffee. When Kyuhyun tried to sing along with Ryeowook one day while watching the sunrise, the both of them knew immediately that they had found each other.

They were truly blessed by the sunrise given to them with each passing day.

When the rain fell one morning, Kyuhyun stopped by the coffee shop, only to find that Ryeowook was gone. On the red sofa that the two of them had so often cuddled up was a note that Ryeowook had suddenly been diagnosed with a terrible illness.

With shaking hands, Kyuhyun looked up to see a woman with the same chocolate eyes as the boy whom he loved so much sobbing broken-heartedly on the table just beside him. On the chestnut table beside an untouched cup of coffee was a crumpled calendar.

And the days were numbered.

The next day, Ryeowook called Kyuhyun over at the coffee shop with the same cheery smile and a voice like the angels. The golden light of the sun that bathed Ryeowook nearly blinded Kyuhyun’s already tear-stained eyes as he ran over to hug Ryeowook as gently and as strongly as he could, filled with the fear that his action may leave him alone forever.

Ryeowook patted Kyuhyun gently and described the sunrise with beautiful clarity.

From then on, Kyuhyun no longer saw Ryeowook at the coffee shop. Instead, Kyuhyun brought Ryeowook to as many places as he could to see the sunrise. And to every place they stopped at, Ryeowook would sing his song, with a voice like the angel. Kyuhyun would gently place a hand around the fragile frame of the smaller man, careful not to make sure that his actions will not cause Ryeowook to leave Kyuhyun alone forever.

You see, Ryeowook was diagnosed with a condition that would cause his arteries to continue to swell. As a result, Ryeowook became softer, purer and more beautiful as the days passed, but it was not without a terrible price.

Kim Ryeowook would die within the year, leaving Cho Kyuhyun alone.

So Kyuhyun promised to remain at Ryeowook’s side for as long as they lived. Ryeowook smiled with those delicate lips of his and pressed them sweetly against Kyuhyun’s. And all Kyuhyun could do was to draw in a shaky breath of the already-remembered honey scent that belonged to the boy he loved, as the sunrises of the places of the world touched them with their fingers.

Soon, Ryeowook could only be confined to a hospital bed, a half-covered view of the morning sun, a figure that got more and more beautiful as the days passed, stale cups of coffee, and no more hugs from Kyuhyun because his arteries were no longer strong enough to take it.

Kyuhyun did not want to give up showing Ryeowook the rest of the world, and so went by himself to take as many pictures of the sunrises that had blessed them with each passing day. Then as the night fell, Kyuhyun would return to Ryeowook’s side with a fresh cup of coffee and listen to Ryeowook describing each morning with a smile and a voice like the angels.

There were really no other words for Kyuhyun to put it.

So Ryeowook put it all into words, his last song for Kyuyhun; even though it hurt, even if he died. Ryeowook knew that he would leave Kyuhyun alone and his heart wrenched with each word penned, smearing the dark ink and he hoped it would be enough for Kyuhyun to continue watching each passing sunrise.

Finally, music notes and messy paragraphs lay strewn all over Ryeowook’s bed as he waited happily for Kyuhyun to return from the world with a photograph, a fresh cup of coffee and a kiss with the promise not to leave Ryeowook for as long as they lived.

That very day, Kyuhyun broke his promise and broke Ryeowook’s heart.

With bitten lips and a shattered heart, a man with exactly the same dusty eyes as the man Ryeowook loved most in the world handed Ryeowook a photograph; just as Kyuhyun had done every day. Crystals of liquid dotted the photograph of not a sunrise, but of the coffee shop that Kyuhyun and Ryeowook had first met.

And even though the walls of the coffee shop were bathed in golden light, all Ryeowook saw was the rain that had fallen on the day when Kyuhyun first learnt that Ryeowook had less than a year to live.

The dark night did not stop Ryeowook from singing with a voice like the angels, with a passion and heartthrob that could not be felt by anyone who heard him. Not that anyone heard him.

When the sun rose the next day, bathing golden rays of blessing over the world, Kim Ryeowook was no longer touched with sadness that the person whom he loved was no longer around to hear him sing that one song, the last song.

Because Cho Kyuhyun and Kim Ryeowook were finally together.

For as long as the sun continued to rise.

And they were truly blessed.

end.

based on a true story,
because 贤旭 (XianXu from Kyuhyun's GuiXian and Ryeowook's LiXu) means "Blessed Sunrise",
and 命运线 (SJM - Destiny) means "Strings of Destiny".

as usual, written in half asleep mode.
