'Private First Class Joseph A. Kacanda was Killed in Action on August 15, 1944 in St. Lonlay L’Abboye, France. Joseph was buried at a local military cemetery, with full honors."

I've been to that cemetery.

Yeah, I don't know much about my own family tree either. Most of the information I have I got from an aunt who I later leaved was a pathological lier. For example she used to tell me that we were descendant from Aztec Royalty. Then years later, after she'd been to visit Spain, she claimed that even though she and my Dad were brought to the California by their parents from Mexico, that we were pure Spanish--again royalty--and that our blood had never mixed with the dirty peasants of Mexico.

And with both Mom and Dad deceased I've given into the fact that I'll never know the truth. Alvarez after all is quite common, like Smith or Jones.

Do you think you will ever research your family tree?
