I must say, this occurence with superpowers, as I've heard them called, is quite strange to me. Not because of the powers themselves, but, and I'm sure this will sound somewhat egotistical, because I seem to be passed over in this case. The island tends not to miss a beat when it comes to tormenting me or affecting me in whatever strange ways, so

Yours probably has some sort of trigger. I only figured out what mine was when... well, never mind. Yours just might be more subtle or obscure.
