it's the license. there is a difference in the state license between a bar that serves food and a restaurant that serves alcohol. not to the outside eye, of course. these two beasts look exactly the same. but some are licensed one way, and some the other. and the reason why they kick you out is because you could be an underage undercover agent for the liquor board. no, i am not joking.

now, none of this makes any fucking sense whatsoever and it is all complete bull shit. i used to go dancing at a club from 2am-4am because they could only have the 18-20 crowd after last call. seriously.

but see, at least now you know exactly why in legal terms they are fucking assholes for discriminating you:)

I agree the drinking age laws are ridiculous, but the restaurant is not being ridiculous or discriminatory for kicking you out - they're following the lettering if their licensing. I've waitressed for about 3 years, so I've got a more inside view on how the licensing types work. I've never worked at a bar in the states, but here's how it works in Canada - and yes, in Montreal as well, it's just we don't run into the problem as much here because the drinking age is 18 ( ... )

Actually, here, if they're under a bar serving food license--see other comments--no minors are allowed in, ever. Not before nine pm. Ever.
And my ire IS directed at the law, not at the restaurant. I think the LAW is discriminatory. I understand that the restaurant is merely following the law. I'm sorry if that didn't manage to come across.
