When I had loads of stuff on repeat, I used to pre-pay which saved a lot of cash, not sure if they still do that?

Yep, they do, but you have to be getting at least 14 different prescriptions / repeats to save money, and the stuff I'm definitely going to be repeating works out at 12 lots a year, so not much use, alas. :(

*nods nods* If I end up having to have anything else prescribed it'll be worthwhile, so it's a good thing to mention anyway. :)

I shall be most unBritish and ask:

Are you earning enough to pay? You could try claiming on the HC1 thingy.

Also, apparently the pre-pay things are good long term?

I get my prescriptions free three ways!

1. I live in Wales
2. I don't earn enough
3. I'm on thyroxine which would give me free prescriptions for life if the other two reasons didn't do that anyway!

Yep, I'm earning enough to pay, and even if I weren't, I have enough in savings to not qualify for any money-saving things when I'm not employed.

Grr, you Welsh people getting free prescriptions! I should get a Welsh doctor since my appointments are generally all done on the phone now anyway. ;)

Pre-pay only saves you money if you're getting over 14 things; I'm probably going to be working out at 12 a year, so no luck there!

Thanks for the input anyway. :)

Er... *is one of those people with a free prescription cards* And I still can't get some things for free either :P But... you don't get yours free?! That's so... stupid, since you're going to need to stock up so much :/ But don't get me started on the NHS 'cos I'll be here all night.

BTW I just got yer postcard today, thankie :D *hugs*

You have to have a rather narrow list of conditions to get free prescriptions from the NHS, and they seem to be fairly random. Given that what I have can stop people being able to function normally, apparently feels like having a heart attack when it's bad and causes life-threatening complications in the long run if you don't medicate it, you'd think that this and other similarly nasty conditions would qualify, but nope.

I think it's a real mess. Glasses should be completely NHS too, given that you can't choose to have bad eyes. I'm of the opinion that dentistry should be less subsidised (all those people not looking after their teeth getting cheap care!) and more of the other medical things should be completely free.
