You know what's really bugging me today, the way people are blaming the police and the government for what has happened, well its not their fault, if there isn't information that something is going to happen then how the hell are they supposed to stop it ( Read more... )

Gotta agree with you, the response and relative calmness of the public and the emergency services was impeccable today. Had a friend who had just left Kings Cross when the bomb went off there and reading his blog people, though panicy, were not reduced to the Darwinian level of "every man for themself". It's one scenario where the stiff-arsed unflappable Brit stereotype comes in quite handy. Calmness under pressure is an amazingly useful ability!

its an extremely useful ability, its what can make the difference between you surviving a secondary situation or not, it also helps others survive if we are calm because the emergency services can get to the people they need to.

No-one's blaming the police or government for not knowing it was gonna happen. We're blaming the government for encouraging such aggression by deliberately belligerent foreign policy.

Agreed, the country has responded, well, as you'd expect - 'we've told a better class of enemy to fuck off'.

Sorry, I can't get on with my life when it's so circumscribed by supposedly anti-terrorist measures that blatantly don't stop terrorism.

Believe me, if there was a way of legitimately challenging those in power on an equal playing field, don't you think we'd do it? Don't you think we're doing it now, by taking part in political parties etc? But it's almost impossible when the media is at the behest of those in power. Money talks, as they say.

But hey, I suppose killing thousands of civilians in Afghanistan, Iraq, and god knows how many other countries by our support of their governments, causing mayhem and violence in all of these countries, means I'm not allowed to protest here, huh?

so to level it slightly they decide to smash up peoples cars and stuff, seems logical, oh wait, no it seems illogical and stupid.

i don't mind if people are going to protest peacefully and i am sure the police don't mind that much either as long as its sticks to being peaceful, but its when people starting getting violent that the police are going to respond strongly.

Yep, all protesters smash up cars. Just like everyone with olive skin is a terrorist, every black person is a drug-dealing gangster, and every woman can't drive. Right. Thanks for your educated, stereotypical response.

if you actually read further on in to my comment then you would see that i don't brand everyone like that. i also don't take any racial stereotypes like that at all. i am quite advocate in the voice of saying people should not be assumed to be something based on their race ( ... )
