Oh money woes at 18 when you're unemployed is a bad time.  I'm going to have to get a job first quarter.  And I'm pretty pissed of at my folks.  There's no way I'm going to get to do Choir, Theatre, Mock Trial, Soccer, Fencing, make any kind of decent money and pass my 16 units.  What can I say, I want it all.

Cal Poly people leave... too ( Read more... )

Actually, I can't say that I'm a fencer yet, but I promised myself that I would try it. As for what weapons I fence, I have no idea what the different calibur weapons are... and now I'm very curious. Tell me...

Well, I fenced foil for three and a half years, and I loved it. It's the lightest weapon, and probably the easiest one to learn. You generally only can score in foil by attempting a touch on your opponent's chest. Then there's epee, slightly heavier, where I think you use the weapon to score touches all over the body, including the mask. And lastly saber, which are really weird-looking, because they were traditionally used for cutting and thrusting at your enemies while they were mounted on their noble steeds, which I guess is why the target area is the upper thighs and lower torso. Fencing is honestly really fun; I think you'll like it. The only problem is that it can get very competitive very quickly. The kids that are serious fencers can be vicious.

Sounds like exactly the kind of activity I'm looking for!
