Rainfurrest thoughts, and using social media to help

A couple of weekends ago I attended Rainfurrest, the furry convention in Seattle that pretty much filled the void that Conifur left. For the most part, it was a reasonable con, but a few isolated incidents created a black mark that might be very hard to recover from ( Read more... )

As I mentioned in a couple of other posts on the subject, I think most of the misbehavior problems can be traced back to excessive alcohol consumption. But when I dared to suggest they try banning alcohol (other than what's sold by the hotel itself in the bar) people acting like I was suggesting satanic sacrifice. Actually, satanic sacrifice probably would've been better received than talk of banning alcohol.

But really, if they think people can't have a good time without getting shit-faced and acting like idiots, then they should rethink how they're running the con and who they're getting as attendees.

I have a number of a friends who are babyfurs and I highly doubt (as you said) that they would leave diapers sitting out or place them on tables and cars. I am 100% sure that was someone trying to get the babyfurs in trouble or banned from the con ( ... )

I honestly don't think that somewhere like the Lynnwood Convention Center is possible. The massive negative of it is that there is no hotel attached. Consider that in late September, when the weather can quite often be very wet, costumers and dealers (because not everyone keeps their stuff at tables overnight - certainly not people in the the artists alley) will have to walk in potentially pouring rain to get to the convention site.

If I were responsible for looking around for a con hotel, these factors would push this location quite far down the list.

Well put! The most disappointing part about all of this was watching furs point the finger at other sub-groups within the fandom with no factual basis for doing so. In such revealing just how cliquey and bigoted some of the people in this supposedly 'accepting' community truly are. It saddens me to see the signs of those who would tear us apart from the inside when we still have so many factors outside to defend against. Ces la vie!
