"Long time, no see," Niou says, sliding into the seat next to him and ordering the usual with practised ease. Yagyuu doesn't answer, just keeps circling the edge of his glass with his finger. It makes a high pitched sound that only he can hear, and the thought of the simple secret sends a vague smile to his lips. Niou could misinterpret this, but doesn't. "You seem less than thrilled," he ventures, taking his glass with a grin and a nod that makes the girl behind the bar bite her lip and look back twice once she's turned away. He knocks back a good half of the drink, and after placing it back down on the bar wonders whether it will be seen as an attempt to fortify himself against the silence.
Silence which doesn't last long.
"I hope you don't think that because we used to know one another that you can sit here and throw inane questions at me all night," Yagyuu says, looking surprised at the length of the sentence to come out of his own mouth.
"I haven't asked any questions," Niou points out.
"All the more reason to go," Yagyuu says, "before you can start."
Niou stands up, but Yagyuu doesn't worry. If he is going to throw a punch, well, Yagyuu knows his physical strength dominates these days anyway. If he yells the bar is loud enough that no-one will hear, and he will simply walk away. Maybe he will be lucky and Niou will be the one to walk away. Take the hint and all.
"Funny," Niou says, shrugging off his jacket and draping it over the back of his chair, "you saying we used to know each other, because I haven't changed." His shirt beneath the jacket is untucked and the shiny fabric slithers across his body under the lights. A key-chain decorates his hip and Yagyuu watches it move as Niou walks away.
