Anime: Gankutsuou FST

Gankutsuou (The King of the Cave) is a sci-fi story based heavily on Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. I vaguely remember reading that during high school, so the idea sounded interesting, at least. And then I saw the first episode, and my eyeballs exploded. I keep hearing about this series, and despite not having read the Count of Monte Cristo I really want to see it. If my brain can deal with it.

Well, I like the series! Having read the novel is not a prerequisite for watching the show at all. The novel moves chronologically, so you find out about the Count's entire life story sequentially - instead of dropping you in the middle and making his motives and actions as mysterious to you as they are to Albert. That's how the anime handles it. Of course, it's amusing to see how the anime has reworked certain events and characters, because there's no Napoleon around in this show. (I don't think.)

Well, uh, I guess I was thinking of Franz with that song! I was thinking of the way he keeps bending over backwards to help Albert - but I don't think he ever really lost his temper with Albert, unless I'm forgetting something. Who were you thinking of?
