I've heard that the best way to write a story is to have your characters write it for you. I think that kind of creativity is great. It seems like it might be similar to the way scientists come up with their ideas (with great imagination). Keep up the good work, Frank!

I have often felt I lost out on some of the flavor in life since my family (both sides) had shed any "old country" culture in favor of "American" assimilation.

I think you found that the key to the grandmother is a strong cultural flavor, the particular spice seems to be less important.
