Syracuse

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any trans-friendly doctors/endocrinologists in Syracuse, preferably ones with low prices/sliding scale fees? I don't have health insurance, so it's going to be tough for me to pay for all the blood work and doctor's visits that I'll need if I have to do it full price.

Thanks!

There might be some docs listed on the GAGV website in that area, but it seems pretty unlikely that any of them would be sliding scale. I'm from Roc, and I know one trans guy in Syracuse, and we both go to NYC (Callen-Lorde) for....everything. The travel cost is usually about $100-140 roundtrip for me, but it's pretty negligible when you consider that I pay $0 for my T and blood work and only have to go there twice a year.

Are you in the HOTT program or on sliding scale?

Thanks! I've heard a bit about Callen-Lorde, so I'll definitely look into it some more.

If you're under 21, they'll put you in HOTT, which is great but not really convenient if you're not in the area because they make you jump through some hoops (14 or 16 therapy sessions before starting HRT). If you're over 21, or close, you can just go into the adult program and start on informed consent. You probably also want to meet with their financial/insurance person to make sure they understand you're ins situation and stuff. I've gotten bills from blood work twice; both times I was able to just send the bill to CL and have them take care of it, but my mom also has emergency health care savings if they didn't/it needed to be paid before I got the opportunity to talk to CL.
