Nathaniel just posted asking what everyone calls their evening meal. I generally call it dinner, but when I commented, I realised that I don't really know what people in other parts of the US do, other than that people in the South seem to call it supper more often and people in the North seem to call it dinner more often. In Ireland it's dinner and it's usually served around 6pm although for me it tends to be whenever I feel hungry in the evening. Supper is generally a small meal like a boiled egg and toast or a piece of fruit that's eaten just before bed and tea is the same thing just eaten a little earlier. Naturally it's pretty rare to have alL 3 in one day!

I'm in Canada (Vancouver BC) and I call it dinner. I used to eat really late (past eight or nine) but now that we've got a baby it's much earlier. My in-laws are british, but have been in canada for about 40 years, and also call it dinner, but eat much earlier - generally 5pm.
I like this poll! Can't wait to see the different results! :)

I think I need a both option- I deliberated, voted, and have already forgotten what I voted. I tend to use supper specifically for a meal between 6 and 9 PM, whereas I call it dinner as long as it's after lunch. I live in Chicago, IL.

In my case, it's technically breakfast, but I put dinner, as that's what I would call it if I weren't nocturnal. I was raised in the mid-atlantic and live in the PNW. Growing up, Dinner was most likely 7ish, but could fall between 6 and 8. It's now more like 5:30-9, depending on how long it takes me to get my act together + cooking times.
