Have you had your insurance marker changed from F to M? Reason I ask, I want to have a hysto, but I've already had my insurance changed. They pay for paps and testosterone. But I don't know if they'll pay for a hysto.
i havent changed my insurance marker. my insurance normally only requires a doctor's autorization for hysto. but because the discomfort i'm having is caused by being on t, i have to jump through more hoops to get my insurance to cover my hysto as a transsexual. what i did was just called my insurance company and asked what was the criteria for covering a transsexual's hysto. they told me, and i got the letters and such together to meet it.
I'm nervous about that call with insurance and having to explain myself. I have heard some guys say they switched their marker back to F to get the surgery. I wouldn't feel right doing that--nor would my employer do it even if I did.
yeah, i could understand feeling nervous. i did a first too. but the fact of the matter is that i am a female-bodied man and i deserve health care. part of getting the care i need and deserve is being upfront about who i am. i actually feel stronger and more centered after having done it. good luck. i'm interested to know how it all turns out for you.
i would suggest try to get the procedure done larposcopically, it will reduce your recoverytime tremendously. i was up and out of the bed the same say od surgery. i got out of the hospital after 3 days 2 nights. also you won't have many scars. if you want to have bottom surgery, it will keep all that stuff that they might need in tact.
i haven't had top surgery for money reasons but i got the hysto and i feel so much better, so congrats and i hope it goes well.
no i didn't change my gender marker and i had it paid for by insurance... i paid a $255 hospital deductible. i would suggest asking around you area of there are any guys. i got lucky, my endo refered me to her brother that just so happened to be an obgyn. as your endo for any leads also if they know of any experienced or sympathetic Dr. that would be willing
Good idea...I'm meeting with my therapist on Thursday, and she was going to talk to her gyno/sex therapist friends and see if she could find someone willing to do it. Then it's a question of getting insurance to pay for it with M on my records.
