Yeah, I went last year. Got a scholarship, shared driving with a friend, crashed with another friend. Had a great time because I was high on a combination of a glut of new people who get the gender-sex-body shit/new city/first conference/saying things I don't usually get to say. It was nice to bring my whole self somewhere and be accepted, if that makes sense.
I have heard that historically, there hasn't as much support for later-transition guys as would have been preferred, but that it was better in that respect last year.
I'm planning to go this year, if for no other reason than to see friends that I made.
argh... I cant get past the stupid slide down "sign up for newsletter thing" as a web designer, things like that just make me want to hollar and not go to the conference... sheeesh.. I am so intolerant these days.
Thanks for posting the link.. Once my irritation over the design subsides, I am going to check it out.
I had heard there was some conflict around a session for men of color. That apparently someone not of color took over the event and said he belonged there because he was Jewish. People came away pretty unhappy and feeling like, once again, there's not a suitable space for FTMs of color in the larger community.
I was there as well. First thing on the first day of my first conference. Kinda sucked. I more than made up for it the rest of the time, apparently, because I forgot to mention it originally.
That sounds like a really great opportunity. I may go if I can afford it. I'll be a poor college graduate, so we'll see. But I'd really like to go. Are you planning to go?
