Intro--sorry I'm a little slow occaisionally

I'm a 22 y.o. "newish" FTM, in my last semester at college in Washington, DC. If you're ever in Philly though, I'm back and forth all the time. I'm hoping to start T in the next few months before my insurance runs out, but life is full of speed bumps so I'm assuming that won't actually happen. I'm also hoping to go to grad school and get my M. ( Read more... )

I didn't have any problem with my therapist, but I have heard my fair share of horror stories. Reading the Standards of Care is a good start. Coming in with some idea of what your options are and what path you're considering is also a good idea.

Do you have a therapist in mind? I would think there would be an abundance in DC and/or Philly.

That's really cool. I go to AU too. We have to hang out and get a beer sometime.

I wasn't really nervous about the therapist, more aggravated that I even had to do it. GID is for the most part a self diagnosed "disorder". The whole point of the therapy isn't so much to see if you're *really* trans, and have GID (unless of course that's why you're going), but more to see if there's some other mental condition or ulterior motives that would be making you want to transition. And then of course to see if you understand the weight of what you're about to do.

At the first appointment right off the bat I clearly stated why I was there, and what I wanted (a letter for testosterone), and asked the therapist if he was willing to help.

i have been seeing the same thearapist since i was in the 5th grade i am now 25. she actually mentioned that i should look into trans stuff. she was really nice and very helpfull the entire time. she found me an endo (a friend of hers) that ran some initial tests and after i got started she said to call if i need letters. it was realtively easy and things have been working out for me quite well.

i saw a few thearapists and every thearapist i saw wanted to write my letter that day for T. I just approached the situation as a know you shit type of thing and i haven't had any set backs.

i look forward to the conversations here and i hope i can make a few friends.
