Is this character dead? Nope
History:
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Shaun_Hastings Personality: One of the first things you will notice about Shaun is the fact that he's incredibly sarcastic and won't hold back on it one bit. Though he does tone it down around Lucy, a women that he happens to work with, this is probably because he respects her. Or he is afraid of her releasing some kind of womanly fury. His sarcasm can get to the point where it comes across as rudeness. Despite the fact that Rebecca, another woman that he works with, has saved his life he continues to be condescending towards her. This is apparent in the way that he talks to her, often excusing what she has to say and paying attention elsewhere saying that the 'adults are talking now' and other such things. Shaun is a complainer and if something goes on that isn't to his liking or just doesn't seem right he'll moan about it to anyone that will listen. He'll even moan when the others are clearly not listening.
Shaun doesn't come across as a likeable person, in fact by first impressions you'd think he was an arrogant, pompous and incredibly rude person. Shaun isn't the kind of person that will correct someone on their thoughts about him. The people that matter to him know what he's really like as a person; a little bit of an asshole but a quirky and generally nice guy all round. He is a loyal man and although at times appears to be pessimistic in the things that he says, he believes that they (the modern day assassins) have to hold out hope. He desperately tries to keep in contact with the other assassins from around the world, wanting to make sure that they're okay, or know what's going on. The news that he receives, he wants to share with the group to ease any fears they may have.
Despite the fact that Shaun is an assassin and in the middle of an ongoing war with Templar's he makes it quite clear that although he's killed before, he'd really rather not. Shaun isn't exactly a pacifist and knows that simply talking about the problems going on, or talking to the opposing side won't get results.
He is a firm believer in exposing the unknown or bringing to light conspiracies. He seems to go to many lengths when trying to expose things and not really thinking of the consequences like the time he tried to call Abstergo out on what they were doing. This could show that he's either incredibly brave and courageous, or completely stupid.
Skills | Powers: While Shaun may be an assassin he has not had the sort of training they would get if they had been born into the order. He doesn't hold the same sort of skills as say Desmond, however it is safe to assume that he has been taught how to use the Hidden Blade. Shaun is incredibly intelligent as he holds a vast knowledge of historical facts and events. He has a knack for finding information on the most obscure of subjects and is a great researcher, shown by how he gathers information hopefully helpful to Desmond in his search for the Apple. Proof of this is how Shaun was able to figure out what Abstergo was up to and what the company really was, a front for the Templars.
Shaun is also very computer literate, working on files of information, using the web to research old archives and such. It would probably be safe to assume that he has the ability to hack networks as he has previous managed to gain personal email addresses to those working in Abstergo and finding out about cover-ups within the company.
He also does a very good job of putting his own life at risk.

Right, so so far I've been told I'm not in Italy any more, I'm in the Underworld, working for the Gods. I shouldn't get too comfy because insane things happen here more often than Desmond doing his share of the chores. Oh! Not to mention no one I know is here, this isn't my world and there's no way out? Is that right? Do correct me if I'm wrong.
I'll make sure to file it all under my 'What the actual fuck' file. [Glaring at the device.]
And what, what is this? Some knock off of the iPad 4? Well if you don't run on any kind of Apple software it's all good to me.
Hang on... [Taps the screen.] How do you get signal down here?
I'm not getting billed for this am I? Because the God's can piss right off if they think I'm paying.
Third Person Sample: Shaun had spent the entire day sitting at his usual desk with countless windows open on his laptop. Different files still open and awaiting more information. So far he had researched as far as he could into three different people, four locations and tried not to get excited when he saw an e-mail from the other assassin's. It was 3am, everyone was asleep except for him, sitting hunched up, face close the the screen and typing away. Occasionally flicking to a different window or reading a different tab of information.
It was tiring, it was stressful and enough to drive anyone mad. But he prided himself in doing such a thorough job that all possible information was given to Desmond. Anything could be helpful. He felt good that, while the other two may be able to do it, they wouldn't be as good as him. Shaun had a knack for being able to find the most obscure information around and it usually always worked to his advantage.
Usually. There had been occasions when he was crossing the line between safe and red flashing warning signs. Those times were behind him, at least he hoped they would be for a while. But who knew really?
Shaun sighed and instinctively reached out with his right hand to grabbed the mug that sat close at hand. He brought it to his mouth and tipped back, pulling it away with a frown. Empty. Typical! He got up and moved over to their makeshift kitchen area, boiled the kettle and made himself a cup of tea. A quick look at his watch told him that it was now coming on for half three. He was exhausted but still had so much work to do before Desmond went back in the Animus in the morning.
“Best be getting on with it then.” Shaun quietly muttered to himself before sighing and trudging back to his desk with tea in hand. It was going to be an even longer night than he initially thought but in the grand scheme of things that didn't really matter. As long as he had a readily available source of tea, or even coffee then he would be fine. There was always the chance to grab an hour here or there for a quick nap, he was sure Lucy wouldn't mind.
The historian looked through his files, read over his sources and checked for the third time that everything was in order. His wording made sense, his information was as correct as he could find and verify. All he had left to do was start up on putting it in order of importance. It was the minor people Shaun found he had more trouble with, or the ones that went into hiding for years and did a very good job at it.
Finally, after several more hours of research he finished. The caffeine consumed had run its course and he could feel his eyes growing more tired. You knew it was time to hit the hay when every word was starting to merge together. Another look at his watch told him he had an hour before he was to get up for the day. Maybe it would run smoother than the last two? Maybe today would be the day he wouldn't be asked silly pointless questions from anyone. Maybe he should just save everything and go to bed.
