In which I actually get out of the house and go somewhere for a change.

Yesterday, I had a lovely time in Cambridge, with the god-daughter, who had to look at something in the university archive there.  I think I may have visited Cambridge once before when I was about 16, and vaguely considering applying to the university.  Things were rather awful for me at the time, and although I was down to take some sort of ( Read more... )

I'm so glad you were able to get out of the flat. And how lovely, you are so close to your god-daughter. We are not close to our nieces. They are drug addicts, and we are careful when we are around them, and keep close eye on our handbag. Sad isn't it. I read how many of my LJ friends go off with their extended families, and are jealous.

Cambridge is lovely (and only 15 mins on the train from Ely) and there's so much to see and do. I don't go as often as I could given the proximity to me. When you come to Ely you will also find it nice and flat for the most part except for the short walk to the river (down hill) but we can go in the car to save the walk back up the hill (which I'd struggle with at the moment). The cathedral is nicely placed in the very flat centre of town and close to all the nice eateries and museums :)

I've just ordered 100lts of compost. It saves struggling from the car to my flat with it!

Glad you had a lovely day :)

I have been to Cambridge so often and love the city a lot. I could see living there because although it has the University, it's still a great market town and has its own character. But I have never been to the Fitzwilliam and I keep meaning to remedy that but haven't done so yet. It really is bicycle city and when you take the guided walking tour (excellent!) the guide tells you to watch out for bikers because they won't always watch out for you.

Didn't you have your camera with you when you and I got together in London twice before Christmas?

It's sunny and nice here this weekend here as well!
I planted zucchini seeds this morning and my sugar peas and spinach is really growing well!
