CHARACTER NAME: John Grimm
FANDOM: Doom (Movie/Book)
GRADE: Senior
MOST LIKELY TO: Ignore your existence
YEARBOOK QUOTE: “Live forever or die trying.” - Unknown
PERSONALITY:
He is gruff and bit of an ass, but he doesn’t mean to be. His parents died a year ago, and he and his twin sister were sent to live with their grandmother and grandfather.
The death of his parents hit him hard and he angsts at times about it making it hard for him to be able to get close to people. He cares deeply for people, but has trouble getting close to anyone. He doesn’t want to go through high school as the kid with the dead parents and he doesn’t want anybody’s pity.
If he yells and hollers at you and cops and attitude it’s just his way of showing he cares without looking soft. People should be more concerned if they are outright ignored by John, it means they may have ended up on his shit list.
He’s smart, genius level smart, but doesn’t really show it, and doesn’t have the social skills that match his IQ levels, he would rather be in the library reading the books he wants to read, or sitting somewhere quiet smoking a cigarette, planning his future escape from this town. Sometimes he thinks his escape will be through college and other times he thinks about enlisting, just to stick it to his peaceful scientist parents for leaving him behind.
The only person he is truly close to and tells everything, except about his dream of enlisting, is his twin sister Sam. She is one of the few people who can see through the gruffness he puts up to the rest of the world. But she never calls him on it in public.
Despite the gruff outside, if someone actually works there way into his life and heart, they would find a warm and caring person. He secretly likes snuggles and cheesy horror movies but that wont stop him from bitching at you if he thinks you’ve gone and done something stupid.
[IF YOU ARE AGING YOUR CHARACTER DOWN] HOW WILL AGING YOUR CHARACTER DOWN AFFECT THEIR PERSONALITY?]
John‘s reasons for keeping people away would change, as a teen he doesn’t want people to know him as the kid whose parents died on Mars. He wouldn’t want people to feel sorry for him so he keeps them away.
When he is adult it’s more to keep his and his sisters secret safe, and keep people from finding out about C24. As an adult he views himself as a monster and carries the burden of watching his friends get killed, and being responsible for his best friends death. The teen just doesn’t want anybody’s pity and wants to get high school over with so he can move on with his life.
AU HISTORY:
John Grimm was born in 2020. He is younger than his sister, Sam, by about two minutes, but he tells people she got pulled out first because she was doing it wrong. Both of his parents were archaeologists working on Mars. Even though they weren't on Earth, their childhood was a happy and normal one, until in 2033 when their parents died in a cave in.
This becomes AU for the game to fit into present day, and the fact that John is only thinking about enlisting in Marines and not dead set on it so he has a slightly different future laid out ahead of him if he doesn’t enlist. Also the twins are a lot older when their parents die in the AU as opposed to the canon. Also that if there is work going on on Mars he probably can’t really talk about it nor would he really want to.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
John sat alone in the cafeteria eating his lunch, appalled that this grandparents had him he had to go to prom. He didn’t want to be around that many people; he didn’t want to hear people’s shitty music. He wanted to be at home reading. Who the hell was he going to go with anyway, it’s not like he had any friends, or romantic interests.
It was sickening to watch how people celebrated and planned for something that was nothing more then a glorified dance. But a voice in the back of his head was telling him to shut the fuck up, he was 16 and acting 30. He knew his grandparents were trying to help him build some positive memories of the time he was spending here, he just had trouble seeing that way.
People didn’t want to be friends with the guy who was always grumpy, the guy with the dead parents. He wasn’t the life of the party and he wasn’t pleasant to be around. But as much as he huffed and puffed he wouldn’t mind a friend or two.
Maybe he could try to be a little nicer to people but he doubts people, because once they find out about his parents they end up changing, ending up having problems talking to him after. So John couldn’t really see the point in trying anymore it just felt to late to be the guy with the friends.
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
[ John feels his stomach roll as he reappears in a room too much like a military base, appearing in a fashion that was too close to Ark travel. He fights the brief wave of nausea and feels a deep seeded dread settle over him, fighting the urge to keep his eyes closed. He lets them fly open and looks around the room quickly. Not Olduvai... that’s one positive. Not some lab...that’s one more, but right now that’s all the positives he can come up with.] What the fuck is this bullshit? Sam! [ Sam, where are you? He reaches out to her as best he can, but can’t sense her anywhere, which is really pissing him the hell off.]
[John takes a deep breath and takes another look around the room and sees an odd little man doing an intro video of some type and he really, really, really wants to punch the screen or find this motherfucker who dragged him here and wring his neck.]
