Physical Description: Deacon Frost is physically somewhere in his early 30s, but older than that. From his birth in 1928 through to his death in 1998, that would make him 70 and change, in reality, but doesn't look it or even really sound like it. He has dark hair and very pale, white skin, as is common for his kind of vampire, and slate-blue eyes. He has a scar at the edge of his right eyebrow that is only significant in that it marks him quite plainly as a 'turned' vampire, which is an important status detail from his own world. Dorff is apparently 5'7", and so it is so for Frost.
Sexuality: Frost is somewhat hetero-fluid. He has a general preference and physical appreciation for women, but in specific contexts, he will act on attraction to men as well. There is a small moment in the movie, when Dragonetti is confronting him, and Frost turns it into an intimate moment for all that it is equal parts threat and mockery. However, it doesn't seem to be entirely out of context for either man and speaks of possible trysts in the past. That Dragonetti even bothers to confront Frost personally alludes to a more personal relationship as well, and so this is woven into Frost's sexuality. He is aggressive, enjoying concepts of ownership and power. He continued a sexual relationship with Blade's mother probably because of his rivalry with Blade, and seemed to keep her on something of a leash.
There is a potentially loving relationship that he holds with a female vampire named Mercury - they are seen working together, although she takes orders from him like every other vampire in his faction. They are also seen touching tenderly in mutual appreciation for one another, made ironic and coy with smirks. While Deacon might not have the capacity to be particularly romantic, he can be affectionate.
It is probable that he would mostly only enjoy sexual relationships with other vampires, or humans whom he does not see as food - whether due to their powers or status.
He is naturally polyamorous. I'm using this term in its truest sense as opposed to a flippant one - he can make meanngful relationships (as far as a Frost makes those at all) with multiple people, not simply 'he gets around'. He is generally pretty selective, actually, for all that he enjoys it.
History: Refer to the general
canon and this
section on the character page. Bear in mind that Deacon Frost from the Marvel comics is a completely different animal and bears little resemblance to the movie-verse, from the method in which he became a vampire through to his profession through to his abilities, never mind appearance. So I'm ignoring it rather than trying to weave in texture detail from it.
Instead, I've created some headcanon based on what few details I've gleaned from the movie.
I'm making him come from Boston, born in 1928 with a working class background. He fell in with local gang-types, more or less a leg-breaker and errands boy who lacked basically any drive or ambition beyond cutting himself a place in the world through casual violence and snarling. The higher-ups he worked for, however, were a higher class of criminal - enough that they even had some connection with the vampiric Shadow Council with deals regarding territory, human trafficking and money. By the time he was a young man, he joint-owned a couple of shady businesses, and even had a few people work for him.
Due to his own independent streak, he was also something of a liability. Over a petty dispute with one his informal 'superiors', he was set up to be 'given' to one Gitano Dragonetti, an elder on the Council. Frost knew nothing of vampires, naturally, blindsided into thinking he was collecting a message.
Gitano drained him, and, because it amused him to do so, turned Frost so that he would have a loyal minion of his own with fingers on the pulse of the Boston crime scene. It took a few smackdowns to get Frost to be in anyway amenable to this arrangement, but eventually, the betrayal he was set up for got to him enough to fall in line - as did the promise of learning more about what the fuck just happened to him.
Turned out, it was the best thing ever.
Frost took to vampirism like he was destined for it, and was more or less content with acting as a leg-breaker for Gitano once he had opened his eyes to it. Gitano also pursued a sexual relationship with Frost, but never very forcibly - when it did occur, it was at Frost's initiation. perhaps motivated by attempting to tie Gitano closer to himself as well as somewhat more open about such concepts since becoming more than just human. It was never something Frost was wholly comfortable with.
It was when his eyes were opened to the class-like hierarchy of the vampire world that things brokedown between them. Gitano was not shy about his own pureblooded superiority - a born vampire being more valuable and 'pure' than that of mere turned vampires, and despite having subjected Frost to this fate, he didn't see anything wrong in reminding Frost of this from time to time. Usually when Frost had bigger, better ideas for vampire kind, and even more so when Frost started to delve into vampire ancestry and lore.
It wasn't his place to know these things, Gitano told him. Both as a petty criminal, and as a turned vampire.
Welp.
Frost promptly stole several hundred thousand dollars from Gitano's coffers and headed west.
This was not without retaliation, obviously, but it was petty enough for Gitano not to spend all his resources in the matter - besides, he was off-shore at the time. Frost worked quickly to establish some territory in Los Angeles, buying up property and kicking apart any formalised vampire nests in the city in 'beat me or join me' fashion, though there wasn't a lot of competition he had to contend with - those who didn't want a leader slunk off somewhere with less trouble, and those who did lacked one and fell in line.
By the time Gitano decided to bring about the pain, it was a little too late. But to bring Frost down a peg or two, he sent a few minions after him who kicked him around a little, and threatened defanging should Frost attempt retaliation. Frost did not. Not yet, anyway.
Life continued on. Frost developed for himself a power base, and cultivated a new sort of vampire culture - the culture of the turned vampire reclaiming some power. He encouraged his peers to turn humans freely, never mind ritual or selection beyond personal whim and preference - that shit was outdated. Human familiars should be used as henchmen and entertainment, and killing them when you were done was acceptable. Further more, he spread around the notion that purebloods were not the be all and end all of vampiric law. They were cowards and nothing more.
He pursued his curiousities as to vampire lore, specifically with regard La Magra, the blood god, who was said to be able to be the weapon vampires needed to reclaim the world. He employed archivists and translators, and, when they were invented, computers and programmes to break through the vampire archaic language for answers - a dead language that had been otherwise lost. There was one thing that the ritual required, however.
It required a Daywalker.
Frost's turning of the heavily pregnant Vanessa Brooks was not random chance. He'd tracked her down via paperwork, deeming her suitable for his experiment, and she gave birth to a boy while doctors were trying to rescue her from her savage neck wound. She herself turned into a vampire, and Frost took her under his wing in a sort of strange, unhealthy, possessive relationship designed to keep her separated from the boy.
And as for the boy-- Blade, as he'd come to be known-- Frost simply kept a distanced watch on him. He'd created a monster, by the time the half-breed was kicking ass and taking names, and this was sort of awesome.
By the time Blade was an adult and a fully fledged superhero vampire hunter, Frost's arrangements were complete. He defanged Gitano in elaborate 'fuck you' before exposing him to a sunrise. He kidnapped the rest the Shadow Council to sacrifice their immortal souls. He used Vanessa to take down Blade, harvesting him for his blood. And it even worked. The ritual was complete with a lot of dramatic lightning and special effects, and Frost was transformed into the indestructible La Magra, bound for a course of turning every human he encountered, set for world domination.
He got into a sword fight with Blade instead. He could have won it. Instead, he got a torso and face full of syringes charged with a serum designed to make vampires explode, basically. It was a messy and highly unattractive end to his short reign as God of all Vampires.
He woke up, then, in Baedal.
I'm choosing to take him from this canon point because after his wee brush with godhood, it will mean this particularly project is over for him. No more La Magra, no more Shadow Council, all of his people are dead, and his story with Blade is finished in his defeat for all that Deacon would love to hash out a sequel. This lets me shed pretty much all his canon priorities, in the practical sense, and apply his hang ups to a more Baedal context.
Powers: Blade-style vampires do not reinvent the wheel of vampiric lore, but they have some quirks. They are highly physical beings, with super strength, super speed and super agility to go along with super reflexes. They are capable of throwing people across rooms, leaping from the rooftop of a building to the next without causing themselves damage, displaying short bursts of impossible speed, and near gymnastic fighting prowess. All of this takes training and honing, of course, but it's within the realms of possibility. Frost, though he prefers to use lackeys and hired thugs to do his dirty work, is quite capable.
Healingwise, he does not heal instantly, but he does heal quickly and with great capacity. Severed limbs will take a few days to regrow, but once this occurs, they do so perfectly and with all their faculties. Fire doesn't kill him unless allowed to burn right down to ashes, and he can recover from blackened crispiness to normal within that 'few days' period. The methods of murdering him are detailed below, but to conclude this paragraph with things that have no effect, this includes religious icons and anything not detailed below.
Decapitation, burning until ash, a silver stake through the heart, direct exposure to sunlight, repeated and severe exposure to UV light, and a mouthful of garlic will end him. Anything else, he can recover from.
Physical differences include death-like paleness and fangs. Said fangs are ever present and do not conceal easily, and can grow longer in moments of heightened agitation/aggression. Similarly, Frost's usual blunt human fingernails can grow into sharper, longer versions of themselves. For some reason.
Blood-drinking isn't exactly a power (although it is very necessary towards healing swiftly), but it bears detailing. Frost requires blood to live, and without it, he'll be overcome by 'the thirst' and become almost incoherent and unresponsive without it save for taking the actions necessary to feed. This universe's style of vampire are particularly messy drinkers, almost displaying animal tendencies towards feeding - even Frost, although he sees nothing wrong with it.
Vampires age with such slowness that it can mistaken as immortality. Frost hasn't aged at all since he was turned in the 40s.
Talents/Abilities: Frost is generally pretty resourceful and open to learning new things. This stems from being a natural born upstart and assuming access to anything, as opposed to true intellectual curiousity, although there is some of that too.
He is a proficient fighter, having mastered swordsmanship with the help of his physical enhancements, and can work his way around handguns and rifles. The canon examples of this being his showdown with Blade towards the climax of the movie, and the fact that all of his lackeys can use guns, so I doubt he is incapable.
He is more street smart over book smart, but he uses this anyway to dig into things like vampiric lore and ancient languages, utilising technology and the resources of other people to tap into the things he desires to pursue, and a fair amount of tenacity. He knows Russian and the vampire language, and has some understanding of the old archaic dialect as well.
He's a businessman, good with money, and generally charismatic enough to have held up his reputation as seen in the movie.
Personality: Deacon Frost is a pain in the ass to everyone.
Ask the Shadow Council and they'll gladly disown him if given the chance. While the political priorities of the vampire world prioritise secrecy from the human world and back alley coexistence in the form of deals with politicians, wealthy businessmen, and simple ownership in consensual agreement, Frost and his faction of 'turned' Los Angeles vampires (and more worldly connections) would sooner see the human race dominated - either made vampire or harvested like cattle. This is something that Frost truly believes, especially if it's done with him at the seat of power and leadership. He finds the notion of negotiating with humans to be obscene, in the same way humans might feel it awkward to ask permission of a salad before eating it.
This superiority carries off into his usual noisy arrogance and bravado, blithely confident in his own abilities and status. He talks a big game and unfortunately generally has the assumption and strength to follow through. He is casually uncaring about the lives and comfort of humans, even his own familiars, and will kill without a moment's hesitation - not only to sate himself, but in response to insult or disrespect. He has an excessive kind of personality, all about having more than he requires. He feeds messily, he splashes money around, and he'd pee on the lawn of the White House if, you know, vampires could urinate. He swears like it's punctuation.
The chink in his chain is rather easy to manipulate once it's found. The vampires of his world have a divide - you're either born a vampire, or you're turned. Born vampires are rare and seen in seats of power, generally privileged and superior to turned vampires who have led human lives and often take the roles of lackeys and servants and companions. Frost cannot abide by this divide, as he was turned for the purpose explicitly, and the evidence of his status is seen in the scar at his eyebrow - pureblooded vampires would have no scars. Reminders of his status done in a way to anger him will generally work, although his self-confidence still rallies effectively besides.
All of the above presents an erratic kind of personality, but it should be noted that generally speaking, Frost keeps himself quite calm and cool. He is an effective businessman, prone to engaging in debate and condescension as opposed to simple violence, and his heated pursuit for the secrets of La Magra to achieve his ultimate goal presents to us someone capable of near obsessive study and focus. He learned the vampire language, as well as its more archaic roots and origins, and is adept with technology, weaponry and combat, displaying a willingness and capacity to learn in general. He is in decent control of his own emotions, although sparking temper, as with anyone, can set off flame.
As for his moral compass, he. Doesn't have one. While the vampires of his world aren't monstrous without exception, Deacon is certainly a monster. He is wholly selfish and without remorse, very much a predator in human disguise. Like he tries to explain to Blade, when it comes to being a vampire, "morality doesn't even enter into it." Humans are cattle, vampires are faction-mates or competition, and Frost would not consider himself evil for it - enlightened, maybe.
Ahead of the game, if you will.
Object: Frost took with him a sword.
Reason for playing: I am choosing to inflict Baedal with Deacon because I am looking to have a character who is easier to integrate than my current cast, and would be more boisterous than the way Lucius slinks around at the edges, or Xeno's ineffectual butterflying about (neither thing I have issue with, just so you know, it is what's IC for them). In the wake of the Bad Blood plot, it seems like a good time to push forward a noisy vampire character who is unapologetic about his politics.
I would also like to have him own a club that is very vampire-friendly. In the movie, one of his night clubs is the introduction into the world of vampire - a crowd of young, probably 'turned' vampires partying hard under a sprinkler-spray of human blood. They are very dangerous places for anyone non-vampire to enter, and if theme permits, I'd like for him to either a) have this or b) re-open a place with this kind of excessiveness.
Gods: I think that he and Gediron, God of War and Conflict, would be a good match. Deacon was fully prepared to go to war on the entire human race, which is a whole lot of people, and there's plenty of fight in him left to be of interest. In return, gods in Baedal will be of interest to Deacon.
I mean, he was a god. For five minutes.

First-Person Network Post:
[ Wherever Deacon is, it's raining just a little. It's also night time, but that was a given. The sky is an indefinite black backdrop above his head, but there's a smeared quality to the lens that suggests raindrops thumbed away as he moves through the streets. His eyes are disguised behind sunglasses that are entirely inappropriate at this hour, and little reflections of the lit up CiD screen can be seen in the tinted glass. He smiles, wide. ]
You know, I'm not gonna pretend like half of you are interested in what the fuck I have to say. It kind of comes with the territory? Surprise, surprise, there aren't a hell of a lot of you I'm real interested in chatting with.
I promise, you're all beautiful anyway.
[ He laughs, to himself, the video sliding out of focus as he stops holding it properly. The transmission is filled with blurs of motion, light, shiny shoes on the sidewalk. ] But on the off-chance you're listening, I just wanted you to know there wasn't anything you could have done. It's gonna be over as soon as it begins. And that doesn't apply to just me, or this stupid bitch I'm following. It applies to all of us, and it applies to all of you.
The night's young, and it never gets old.
Hear me? Yeah, I bet you are. [ The feed cuts out just as the shadows close in when he steers off into alleyway. ]
Third-Person Arrival Post:
Dropped without ceremony back into only relative immortality meant that it took a while of Deacon Frost doing fucking nothing.
He avoided the sunlight picking through tightly shut curtains, the sheer itchiness of the daylight making him want for a cigarette. He folded up like a tripod in the corner of the room and tried to fathom the abyss of what he just got taken away from him, and that made him want a cigarette too. Stolen godhood, death by Blade and the fucking sunlight all amounted to the same white static irritation, like a headache, morphing homogenous together and it wouldn't be anything like the thirst if he didn't get a drink sometime soon.
He'd settle for a cigarette, though.
Night time saw the door kicked at until someone came, and he held it together not to rip out their throat in the corridor. His CiD device in pocket and sword held awkward after some indecision about whether to leave it behind or not saw him then storming out into the welcoming night. Like badly edited film reel, Deacon Frost all but disappeared off the sidewalk.
Third-Person Action Post:
One day, he'd bite the wrong person.
There weren't any fairies, where he was from. No-- fucking-- superpower having sons of bitches apart from the one he created with his own fucking fangs. Baedal proved to be a different kind of stomping ground than the simplistic black and white Californian them and us watering hole that Frost was accustomed to. It had been his third night of feeding that he'd learned this the hard way, waking up about an hour off dawn with precious blood painting his face and his watch stolen.
Jesus Christ.
Tonight wasn't like that, however. It was old school stuff, and Deacon didn't mind it, when he thought of it that way. Like a throwback to the way things used to be for him. Slumming it. Sure, the bathroom of the club with its flickering light and unpolished mirrors didn't exactly come close to L.A. high rise penthouses, he had to go get his own food rather than rely on willing familiars or given tributes, but fuck him if he didn't have a work ethic sometimes.
He has her against the toilet in the stall with the broken door, and chooses not to fuck around. His teeth sink into her throat and rip a mess into it, that instant shock of blood going everywhere while preternaturally strong jaws choked the voice out of her. She'd suffocate before the blood loss set in, like a lioness latching to the throat of a wildebeest. Blood everywhere-- Gitano always told him he wasted it-- and staining his shirt. Weird how he never cared about that when he was feeding.
He also didn't even notice the sound of the bathroom door banging open, the thudding feet of approach.
Misc
Other: So! My preference would be to have Frost quasi-established enough that I can dive right in. It would be cool if this was the case + a part of the cohort, and maybe only just now opening his business. I haven't written up a description of this, but my head-picture is a club not dissimilar to the kind he had in his canon - all vampire, no humans allowed. Well. Humans are allowed, but they might not make it out alive. As for non-humans-non-vampires, they'd probably be allowed in, but not necessarily welcome - and they might see some trouble unless they can take care of themselves.
It'd be a dance-bar, more or less, and potentially kind of gory. Human trafficking to feed off of, kind of gory. Blood in the sprinkler system, kind of gory. But I am good to accept ideas, tone things down/amp things up, to fit into the theme and recent history.
So let me know your thoughts, everything is negotiable, provided the character is accepted. Cheers!
