Vincent was away on some day trip, over all Eliot didn't attend to his middle brother's affairs if only because Vincent didn't rankle him the way Gilbert did with his fits of melancholy. The boy wasn’t torn from his book even as Gilbert called back to them and walked over to them. “Yes, you should do that, Gilbert. I’m sure Eliot and I can afford to wait a few more minuets…” He put a slight emphasis on the last few words, making sure Eliot really got the message this time.

"Well hurry up then!" he said with a huff before he sat next to Reo on the bottom step as if they had a schedule to keep. He looked over the other boy's shoulder at the pager he was reading and sufficiently assured he was farther ahead he opened his own book.
