When I saw that this awesome sounding Dean/Cas Big Bang was up for grabs, I took it:
Perpetual Love Machines by eggblue
After the Apocalypse comes, love, home, god, and loyalty are ideas stolen from fairy tales. But the love mecha named Kinky Dean - with Sam the mechanical dog by his side - wants to make the saddest angel in world happy in the only way he knows how. Together they will remake the Impala, the woman they all know as Mary, the future world itself. But can a home be found in a future where everything real is obsolete?
Based on the film AI: Artificial Intelligence (2001)
First and foremost I just want to say that this fic is AMAZING. I was so pleased to find that the story was just as good as I was hoping it would be, and then some. eggblue's writing is beautiful and poetic, which fits well with this fairy tale sort of story. I read it three times already, and I can honestly say I'm just honored to be paired with something this fantastic.
Also, eggblue herself is a fucking sweetheart. JSYK.
Anyway!
One of the scenes that stuck with me was when Castiel finds Dean and burns away his ID. The entire scene is a really lovely parallel to canon (even going so far as to dragging Dean out of Hell - ie; saving him from the police, etc).
Just one thing I wanted to mention: anyone who has listened to me ramble on about art knows I hate doing backgrounds, loathe them. So instead of painting some really awful looking trees for the forest, I decided to try something more whimsical while still keeping a 'dark' atmosphere, as this wasn't exactly a lighthearted scene (or fic!). Hopefully it worked, at this point I can't tell, lol.
Massive thanks to glockgal, who once again betaed for me and helped point out some problematic parts of my initial sketch. Love you. <3
