Summary : When Key (a blonde, British, sweet but snarky fifteen year old) and Jonghyun (a blonde, Korean slash American overly excited twenty-one year old) have both the bitch level of +1000, nothing ends up right.

(so basically this story is about a snowboarding boot camp. wouldn't it be super hot if Jonghyun would snowboard ? lol.
snowboarding!jongkey ahead of you, guys.)

The strumming of a guitar and someone humming a catchy melody echoed through the hallways one cold morning.
The boot camp had already been going on for a coupe of days now and everybody was having a great time. The kids had already learned quite a few new tricks and the monitors were slowly but surely starting to bond with the participants.

There was loud banging on the doors followed by loud "Wake up !"s from Jeremy who shamelessly barged into rooms and threw duvets off of poor boys' bodies.
Jonghyun, on the other hand, continued singing songs whilst strumming away on his guitar, a much better way to wake up the kids.

"Hey lazy head, get your ass out of the bed or I'll be keeping you away from the slopes for the entire day," Jeremy threatened and it didn't take longer than a minute before all of them were out of their beds and underneath their shower heads, no one even daring to disobey him now seeing as their punishment would be awful.

Key didn't, though.
He just hid himself under his blanket some more and waited for one of the monitors to pick him up and put him in the shower, too damn tired to do it himself.
He silently lulled back into dreamland, ignoring David's pokes in his ribs and Kenneth's gentle nudging at his shoulder, every time letting out a loud groan and giving them his back.

For some odd reason it was much easier to fall asleep when Jonghyun was humming a melody he had never heard before, an unconscious smile slipping on his face as he tried to lay as still as possible so that the rustling of the sheets wouldn't drown out the other's soft voice.
He grabbed his pillow and pulled it to his chest, hugging it tightly and nuzzling his face in it, blonde hair getting even messier.
His eyes slowly fluttered closed with the other's soothing voice somewhere in the background, making the tip of his stomach flip and turn.
For a second he considered getting his cellphone and recording it so that he could secretly listen to it to fall asleep but decided that it would be too much of an effort and pretty much just plain creepy.

The singing came closer and closer, the banging on the doors as well and Key dove a little deeper in his bed, letting out a desperate groan.
One of his roommates was rummaging through his suitcase, he heard, the other was showering causing a little whine to escape the back of his throat because of the racket that was going on in his room. He couldn't even hear Jonghyun's guitar anymore.

It didn't matter though, because the exact moment he thought that he could finally fall asleep again because his roommate was done showering Jeremy decided to think it was a good idea to enter their room whilst screaming and laughing, Jonghyun who was still playing on his guitar laughing along with him.

"Wake up sweethearts !" Jeremy chirped in an annoying girly voice, followed by Jonghyun's excessive laughter that oddly enough, to Key, as soothing was as his humming.
He changed his position, with his head pressed underneath his pillow to block out Jeremy's wake up call but that only caused for his blankets to move and not a second later, he could feel the presence of someone next to his bed.

The person continued to stand there and after a minute or so, Key got fed up with it and let out a loud groan, kicking off his duvet and looking up to whoever decided to be creepy as fuck and stare at him while he was trying to sleep.
Standing there was none other than the blonde monitor himself, holding a black guitar and looking down at the smaller boy with raised eyebrows.

"Aye angel face, are we getting up or what ?" He said, a tinge of impatience audible in his voice and Key couldn't believe that that the same voice was that could make him fall asleep so easily. It simply didn't fit his obnoxious, teasing attitude.
Key turned onto his back and let out a sigh, slowly opening them and meeting two big brown eyes staring down at him.

Their gazes met and Key pursed his lips into a thin line, "Stop calling me those ridiculous nicknames," He said casually, voice hoarse from sleep.
The older male certainly didn't expect for the blonde to say that to him the first thing in the morning and frowned, "You've never complained about it before," He tried to defend himself, finding the nicknames he gave the younger boy more than suitable.

"But now I do," Key said in an exhausted voice, turning around so that Jonghyun faced his back.
He heard the monitor sigh exaggeratedly behind him and he couldn't help but grin a little, loving the way he could get on his nerves by effortless actions.
"Get up !" Jonghyun said sternly, poking him in his back with his guitar. The blonde swatted the instrument away, "Stop that," He complained with a groan, turning back around to face the monitor.

"Do you want me to drag you out of bed or what ?" Jonghyun said, getting irritated with the other's slowness and disrespect. Key looked up at him with tired eyes, his blanket covering only his legs, leaving his t-shirt clad torso revealed.

He was wearing a grey tee that was too big for him, slipping off of his shoulders and showing his prominent collarbones.
Jonghyun intently stared down at him, waiting for whatever the younger boy was going to do next to happen. Kenneth and David already went downstairs to eat breakfast with Jeremy, leaving Jonghyun to deal with the obnoxious, blonde kid.

He let out a loud and exaggerated sigh, making a mental note to let Jeremy take care of him from now on because if he would have to go through this routine of begging for Key to get dressed every morning, he wasn't quite sure if he'd be able to control his temper any longer.
The black guitar was set on the table that was situated in the center of the little room as he bent down with his arms outstretched, grabbing the smaller boy's armpits and hoisting him up.

Key let out a loud, not-so-boyish squeal as he got raised into the air, arms immediately hurling around the monitor's neck and legs clutching his torso.
"You nutter !" He scolded, punching the other's back with his small fist at which the older boy had to grin.

"Well I'm sorry princess but I warned you," He said, quite amused with the reaction he got from the blonde. He walked Key to the bathroom, holding him on one arm when he had to use the other to open the door and carefully letting him slide out of his grasp when they were in front of the sink.

"Now wash you face, get dressed and make sure you're downstairs in five minutes or no slopes for you today, understood ?" He said sternly, showing Key that he was the one in charge and he was the one making the rules, not him.
Key could only nod and roll his eyes at the monitor before turning around and fixing his blonde bangs in the mirror, grabbing a wash cloth and holding it under the tap.

Jonghyun watched him for a second before giving him a satisfied nod in the mirror when he began washing his face, closing the door of the bathroom behind him before making his way downstairs to the cafeteria.

He smiled a little to himself as he skipped down the stairs, the younger boy smelled like mint and peaches when he had dragged him out of bed, it was nice. Not to mention that holding the lightweight in his arms felt nice, too, to be able to hold such a fragile and brittle body in his arms made him feel like he had to protect it from getting hurt. He knew that 'princess' was only just a nickname, but in some odd way, the younger boy really resembled one.

Precious, an attitude, whiny, small and breakable.

And pretty.

The chattering of all the kids echoed through the hollow hallways, he followed the loud noise and pushed open the doors of the cafeteria, looking around for Kenneth and David and spotting them at a table with their other friends, noticing that they had reserved a chair for Key.

He smiled a little in satisfaction, even though he had some sort of dislike towards the blonde he didn't want him to feel left out during the boot camp.

Jeremy was sitting at the table with all the other monitors, they were just chatting about today's plans and how they were going to work everything out in the evening because they had scheduled a game during the night, which was going to be a whole lot of fun.

Jonghyun joined them, checking Tess' wrist watch who was seated next to him and seeing that Key had still two minutes left to get downstairs.

The monitors always ate before the kids and even before they went to wake them up, to spare themselves some time. Jonghyun would've preferred to eat at the same time so that they could sleep out a little longer but eventually, the majority who had chosen to wake up earlier so that they could do some last minute check ups on the schedule had won.

"Did you manage to get that kid out of bed ?" Jeremy grinned, raising his voice a little so that Jonghyun could hear him over the chatter and laughter of the kids.
He rolled his eyes at him playfully, "Next time, you take care of him, I had to literally drag him out of bed," The blonde male said, a little smile playing on his lips because even though the kid was just so, so annoying, he really did succeed in amusing him with everything he did. From being a bitch to being a whiny, little puppy and from being fierce to being helpless like just a few minutes ago when he had plucked him out of his bed.

Jeremy pulled a dissatisfied face at the proposal of his co-worker, knowing how difficult Key was and thus not even daring to switch roles with Jonghyun.
"Nah, I bet you already know the hang of dealing with him so I'll just leave him to you," Jeremy joked, causing for the blonde to grin.

Just then Key came strolling in, dressed in a blue t-shirt with an imprint of a robot on and tight black jeans. Jeremy snickered a little when his co-worker's head snapped into the kid's direction, eyes following his every step.
Key sat down in the reserved chair next to Kenneth who slung an arm around his shoulders. He had lain his head down on the surface of the table and Jonghyun didn't hear it, but he could swear he had groaned.

Jonghyun stood on his tippy toes to see if everybody was present, asking the other monitors if there were still kids in their rooms and when they all shook his head, dragging a chair to the middle of the cafeteria and climbing onto the furniture.

The room went silent and all heads were turned to him, except for Key's but the blonde male decided to ignore it.
He smiled brightly at the children, eyes turning into little slits as he did so, "Hey everybody, I hope you all slept well,"
He began, hand diving into his pocket and pulling out a piece of paper.

"Today, my group is going to ski," He announced and some of the kids cheered, others 'aw'd. He grinned from ear to ear, "Yeah, I know some of you don't like skiing but you'll just have to suck it up," He snickered, taking a quick look at the paper before facing the crowd of kids again, "Group A is going to snowboard and team Jeremy is free to choose," He said, crumpling the paper and stuffing it back into his pocket.

"So ! Are you guys excited ?" Jonghyun asked with a big smile on his face, eyes twinkling with enthusiasm and looking around the room to see the kids' expressions.
A sudden voice caught him off guard, "Yeah yeah we are, now shut it," It wasn't loud but since everybody was silent and the blonde male the only one talking, everybody had heard it. Jonghyun's head snapped in the direction of the voice, noticing that all gazes fell upon a certain blonde who had still his forehead pressed to the table.

Key didn't budge, seemingly not aware of all the attention he had drawn and instead let out another groan. Jonghyun witnessed Kenneth nudging his shoulder as if to say everybody was looking at him but Key still didn't give a kick.

The monitor couldn't help but grin a little, opening his mouth to shoot something equally embarrassing back. If he was going to humiliate him in everybody's presence, he could too, "Oh, I'm sorry princess, didn't they serve you your fish and chips yet ?"

Key's had snapped up in one swift movement, turning around with narrowed eyes and probably not even noticing that all eyes were still on him.
"You don't eat fish and chips for breakfast," He retorted, watching how the man jumped off the chair and dragged it back to the table where the other monitors were seated.
Jonghyun decided to ignore him, sitting back down next to Tess and oblivious of the deadly stare he received from the blonde.

Some of the kids were snickering at the scene Key had once again managed to make, turning back to their breakfast and previous conversations when the younger boy bit his lip in annoyance and tore his gaze away from Jonghyun.

It didn't take long until everybody was done eating their breakfast, every table having a little tower of plates in the middle and a collection of dirty cutlery.
One of the monitors stood up and announced that they were free to go back upstairs to put on their clothes or brush their teeth, giving them exactly fifteen minutes before they have to gather back in the main hall.

The kids didn't reply and just stood up from their tables, making their way to the stairs whilst laughing and talking loudly.
Jonghyun stole a glance at Key who was carefully listening at something David was explaining to him, eyeing him from head to toe until he disappeared around the corner, letting out an unnoticeable sigh.

He turned around, not expecting Kenneth to be standing right behind him, looking up at him with big blue eyes. The monitor jumped a little in surprise, hand flying out to clutch his chest, "Ah Kenneth, boy you scared me," He said breathlessly, letting out an awkward chuckle.

Kenneth gave him a somewhat sheepish smile, fiddling with his fingers, "I just wanted to," The boy began hesitantly, "you know, apologize for Key's behavior,"
Jonghyun lifted up his eyebrows in confusion, on the verge of asking him why he was apologizing in the blonde's name but Kenneth beat him to it, "I know he acts like a total brat but it's not his fault, really," He explained, giving the older man an awkward smile before continuing, "Key just, ... he just lost his dad, and well, his mom thinks the best way to help him get over it is to spoil him,"

Jonghyun felt his heart drop a little, not expecting that at all. It did explain his horrible attitude and couldn't help but feel just the slightest bit guilty for teasing him all the time, even though Key was the one who always started it.

"I see ..." Jonghyun said, voice soft and even a little gloomy, "That explains a lot," He gave Kenneth a sad smile and the boy pursed his lips into a thin line, eyebrows knitted together.

"I know he can be a bitch, be he's been through a lot ... so ... please go easy on him," The younger boy pleaded, expression determined and even a little bit desperate.
Jonghyun felt his heart warm up at seeing all the love and care Kenneth had for Key, an unconscious, sweet smile appearing on his lips, "Of course,"

Kenneth let out a relieved sigh, "Thank you," He said with all the gratefulness he could muster, eyes shining with something Jonghyun couldn't quite decipher and passing him by to go to his room afterwards.
The monitor turned around to watch his retreating back, the same unintended smile gracing his lips because whatever friendship he and Key had, it was simply beautiful.

--

"Ugh, I hate skiing !" Key complained as he tried to move forward with his skis on, a fluffy, grey scarf wrapped around his neck and partially covering his face.
"Then why did you even bother participating this boot camp," Jonghyun chuckled, crouching down to fix the blonde boy's boots that were attached to the skis.

"Because I love snowboarding," Key deadpanned, giving him a 'duh' face but the monitor ignored it, standing back up to his feet and ruffling his hair, receiving a whine in return.

"You do know how to ski, right ?" Jonghyun asked him in a hopeful tone, not in the mood to teach right now. Teaching kids something wasn't particularly his thing. He loved kids, but he had a really short temper when he was in a bad mood and that never ended up all too well.

Key shrugged a little, "I don't know,"
The monitor let out a sigh, biting his lip in thought. "I've done it a couple of times, though," The blonde quickly added, not wanting to be a burden and that surprised Jonghyun, because as far as he knew, it seemed that Key only lived to be a burden to him.

"You'll be just fine," Jonghyun said reassuringly, grinning down at him and gazing into the younger's big, green eyes.

"If you say so," Key mumbled, flipping his hair to the side and waddling his way to the ski-lifts.

--

"Jonghyun ! Jonghyun !" The blonde monitor heard someone shouting his name somewhere in the distance. It was almost 3 pm and the kids had been skiing or snowboarding for already quite a while now, everything seemed to go as planned and not a single problem had occurred yet.
He turned around to face whoever had been calling him, seeing Jeremy run up to him, panting loudly.
"J-Jonghyun, the little blonde," He began, completely and utterly out of breath. Jonghyun couldn't blame him because those boots weren't made for sprinting.

His ears perked up at the last three words though, inquisitively squinting his eyes at him and urging him to go on.
"W-we think he broke his arm," Jeremy finished his sentence, clutching his stomach and pointing with his free hand over his shoulder to where the accident had probably happened.

"What ?!" Jonghyun said loudly, a knack of concern going through his entire body, rippling from his head to his toe.
He saw somewhere in the distance and bunch of people gathering around something, someone, and he didn't even care to wait for Jeremy's reply as he dropped his skis and sprinted towards the racket that was going on there.

Something tugged at his heart when he neared the group, elbowing his way through the crowd. He didn't see anyone yet but he could hear someone sobbing though, recognizing the voice out of the dozen others, making his heart break a little because no matter how hard he tried to act as if the British boy didn't have just the tiniest bit of impact on him, he had.

He reassured himself that he felt this way towards all of the children, but somewhere in deep inside he knew he had a soft sport for Key. He'd figure out later how the hell that was possible seeing as the kid was just so, so annoying.

Tess and two other female monitors were crouched down next to his body, stroking his hair and encouraging him to hang on and that the paramedics could be there any moment. Jonghyun noticed how Key's cheeks were dampened from all the tears he had shed, not missing how he was still lying in the snow, his thin frame trembling because of the coldness.

He quickly crawled over to him, pushing one of the other monitors aside and taking off his jacket and sweater, carefully grabbing his head and placing it in his lap, putting his sweater over his shivering body.

"Hey," He said softly, hand lightly patting the other's tearstained cheek. The boy's pretty, green eyes fluttered open, his bottom lip trembling and teeth chattering. The monitor reassuringly smiled down at him, putting a few blonde locks behind his ear and witnessing how one corner of the other's mouth slightly, almost unnoticeable, curled upwards.

His face was pale and Jonghyun didn't know if it was caused by the coldness or by the pain, watching how he had been tightly clutching his wrist while gritting his teeth.
His wrist was turning into a repellent shade of purple and blue, wincing every time he tried to wriggle his fingers.

"Don't try to move them," Jonghyun told him in a soft voice, not daring to touch his hand in fear of hurting him even more.
Tess had stood up to see over the heads of the other kids if the paramedics were there yet, letting out a loud sigh when there was no sign of them yet.

"Key ?!" came a sudden surprised and worried shriek. Jonghyun recognized the voice, it belonging to none other than the blonde's best friend, Kenneth.
Key tried to turn his head but didn't succeed, letting out a little whimper at which Jonghyun had to frown, "Don't move too much," He ordered him, thumb wiping away the remains of his previous tears, all in vain, because at seeing Kenneth appear in front of him he began crying again.

"Kenneth," He whimpered, still shivering from head to toe. He tried to reach out to him with his unharmed arm but failed, pouting a little and looking at his friend with pleading eyes.

Kenneth ran over to him and dropped down onto his knees, hovering his face of Key's with a concerned expression, "Hey, what happened," He asked in a soothing voice, glancing down at his bruised arm and scrunching his nose up at the ugly colors that had appeared on the skin.

"I-I don't know, I was t-trying to ski a-and --"

"Skiing ? Dummy, you know you suck at that," Kenneth laughed softly, eyes turning into little slits as he did so.
Key couldn't help but let out a little laugh too, little crystal-like tears still sliding down his pale cheeks and looking up at his best friend with shimmering, green eyes.

"Everything's going to be alright," Kenneth assured him, combing with his fingers through the soft, blonde locks.

Jonghyun felt a little disappointed when he noticed that Key was a whole lot more relaxed now, the grip on his wrist was loosening and the trembling of his body was slightly reduced. It was obvious that it was because of Kenneth's presence, taking Jonghyun's mood down just a little bit.

Tess who had been pacing to and fro the whole time looked up to see Jeremy running over to them, "They're here !" He announced breathlessly, placing his hands on his knees and panting loudly.

The crowd around Key cleared as two paramedics with a stretcher came over to the boy, carefully lifting him up after Kenneth had taken a couple of steps back to give the men some space.
Jonghyun quickly took his sweat that had been draped over the other's shivering frame away, leaving it on the snow and watching how they handled the little boy with care.

"Who's the responsible person here ? He has to come with us," One of the paramedics asked, looking at the monitors. Tess hesitated a little before pointing at Jonghyun, saying, "He's in your group, you should go with him,"

Jonghyun nodded, turning his head to Kenneth who stared at him with pleading eyes. He gave him a reassuring smile, standing up to his feet and leaving his jacket and sweater neglected on the ground.
He saw a couple of other kids, including David, running over to the scene with curious faces, watching how someone was carried away on a stretcher.

Jonghyun caught up with the paramedics after he glanced back at the kids who were slowly going back to their snowboards and skis.
He smiled at Kenneth who was standing next to David, giving him a thumbs up as if saying that everything indeed was going to be alright.

There wasn't ample space in the ambulance with all the medical stuff in it and another paramedic who was already treating the blonde's wrist. Jonghyun had to squeeze himself in to fit, giving Key, who turned his head to face him, a sweet smile.

The smile the blonde gave him in return seemed to brighten up his entire pale face and Jonghyun found it charming, really charming, to still smile so prettily while you're going through an agonizing pain.
He held out his hand to comfortingly caress the other's unharmed hand, eyes growing just the slightest bit bigger when he felt Key's small hand wrap around his own, slender fingers closing the gaps between his own rougher ones.

He looked up to see big, green eyes staring at him and Jonghyun couldn't help but let a grin slip onto his face, squeezing the other's delicate, small hand and with the other going through his silky, blonde hair.

The smile on Key's face didn't fade.
