"-To Aizen. Let's go."

[And so, in a single movement- the exact moment where his head snapped up as he rose from his very personal concrete slab (he had etched his name in and everything)- Shinji Hirako found himself away from the moldy old warehouse and in the middle of a ruined city-street that looked like Hell warmed up, then forgotten ( Read more... )

Hm...another face from the past, I see.

[Oh yeah, just like he felt- good old Ukitake, as pale and collected as always. but now Shinji began to wonder- was it really possible for Aizen to create so many illusions at the same time? Could he make him hear and see all these different voices and familiar faces all at once? It was a most unenviable situation to be in: caught in the middle of either thinking he was going paranoid, or wondering if making him THINK he was going paranoid, only to strike when his guard was down and he had begun to trust was Aizens plan all along. None the less... the least he could do was to show some courtesy to an old colleague: whether he was an illusion or not.]

... I could say the same right back at'cha.

Has anyone explained the predicament in which you've found yourself, Hirako-san?

I know my own predicament very well, Ukitake. It's the current circumstances that find me a li'l bit stumped.

Adstringendum. There is currently a truce between Aizen-sama and the Shinigami.

[... Huh. "Aizen-sama" made it clear that we were dealing with an underling here, but 'truce'? Why would he ever do that? If THIS was an illusion, what did Aizen hope to fool him into doing? Did he honestly believe Shinji of all people would lay down his arms? It didn't make any sense... too out there to be an illusion...]

... Man like him callin' a truce?

Next you'll tell me we're all under siege by vicious bunny-rabbits.

[There is a doubtful, yet not altogether dismissive tone to his voice. He's inviting this voice to extrapolate... but to be prepared for massive amounts of disbelief.]

I established the truce before he arrived and he appeared from before the war.

The rabbits are only hostile if threatened or hungry. *Neglecting to mention that they're usually hungry, though.*

[What.

What?

What- okay, wait just a second. Aizen is from 'before the war'. Monster rabbits EXISTS? And an Arrancar exists that got to make a decision without Aizens say-so and he approved of it?

Yeah this was way too bizarre to NOT be an illusion of some sort.]

You established... an' he followed?

Hirako-taicho!

[Aw, Shinji, just look at the smile of excitement and relief on that dorky old face. Your lieutenant is so happy to see you! So happy, in fact, that he's shunpo'ing your way as he speaks. And holy shit is he unarmed?]

[Fuck. Him. There is no mistaking that voice, for he has replayed it a million times over and over and OVER in his head, remembering the way he smiled that false, heartless smile, the way his eyes never quite shone like regular people did... remembering every goddamn word of the speech this rat made that night, when he turned his captain into just another stepping stone on the path to godhood.

And now, here he was. Looking not a day older, still wearing those dumb glasses, still in that uniform and still sporting that exact goddamn smile on his face. Shinji could do nothing but stare at the bizarre sight before him... well, stare and hold out his sword against Aizen, of course. You are so not breaking personal space here, buster. Not in a million years.]

[Well, that wiped the smile right off - swords in your face do tend to do that, even if you are a young shinigami lieutenant positively brimming with goodwill, coming in to welcome his long-absent captain and report to his side, as is only appropriate. If Aizen knew what kind of precarious position he was cheerfully throwing himself into, he didn't show it one whit - but that was to be expected. It all was to be expected. Aizen Sousuke did not do things by halves, especially not lie.

He did not have Kyouka Suigetsu at his side; conversely, he was also not wearing his lieutenant's badge. Under the unruly mop of hair that had grown longer over the months spent in the city, his eyes went very wide, and he took half a step back, hands held out. That shocked look was not without understanding, especially seeing his captain definitely not looking like a captain anymore. But the hint of desperation there, as though he'd hoped so much that Shinji would have better news for him than all the others...]

S-sir...?

[Unarmed? No. No it was highly possible that it was just an illusion- he could be hiding it anywhere and Shinji would not know, not unless he struck first... but that look.

That damn look.

Playing the innocent angle? Trying to pretend... trying to look like that when Shinji knew, knew what the fucker had done and what he deserved, what the fuck was he even thinking-

What was he thinking.

What was he planning? Aizen Sousuke was always planning, no? Always one step ahead. This was part of something, part of some kind of plan- it was now just a matter of figuring out what that plan was.]

... Been a long... long time since last. Aizen.

[Ah. There. There it was- the one voice that WOULD make sense to hear when suddenly finding oneself trapped in a deranged world between worlds, the one voice which more than anything screamed mad science. Urahara Kisuke... just as he had felt. Wouldn't this be a laugh and a half...]

So... the culprit shows'mself this soon'n the game?

[He switched his PCD to video, appearing on Shinji's screen with nary a scratch or bruise.]

Now, now Shinji-san... with both Yoruichi and Hiyori here, would I be looking so dashingly handsome if I was the cause of this whole mess?

You exceed at bein' the slipperiest man anyone's ever known, Kisuke. Wouldn't put it past ya ta find a way ta slip by their notice's well.

[His expression upon seeing Kisuke again is... strained. They had not met for quite a while, after all... and the situation was NOT one that endeared him much to Kisuke's brand of obfuscating stupidity, or his 'charm' as Kisuke would call it.]

[And what was this? Kurosakis little shinigami-buddy, the one he saved from being turned into an ever so cute little stain at the hands of the 'Sexta'? Had all of Soul Society just up and decided to plan a vacation in JUST this one spot or what?]

Me, me. Let's not make this all 'bout me, miss. Why don'cha start by introducin yerself, first?
