Fun trivia: Kubrick didn't tell Ligeti he was using his music because he had heard that Ligeti would refuse permission, so Kubrick used the music and set aside money to pay Ligeti for the eventual lawsuit.

All of "Atmospheres" is amazing. Have you ever listened to his opera Le Grand Macabre? It's one of my favorite pieces of contemporary composition. Also try "Poeme Symphonique for 100 metronomes" which is simply 100 metronomes banging away at the same time and gradually winding down. It's fucking amazing.
