The quotes that are played over the Marvel logo aren't in chronological order and there's a rl quote about falsely thinking about time as something linear, heh.
So we zoom out of our universe, which then explodes. I guess that's supposed to be the Big Bang and everything starts again. We zoom out further and I guess we actually see our universe from the outside.
And there's a second one! When we zoom into that one, the Marvel quotes are post-Endgame (at least we've only seen the Vision quote that was set before Endgame in WandaVision and I guess they just wanted to use that quote, because it's the most popular from that show), could that mean after Endgame is where the multiverse starts? If there even is a clear start to it. I mean, it could be like time travel and show up all over the timeline(s) - depends on the rules Feige & co set up.
Wait, the castle is on a space rock?! Or does it only have a spacy look? It looks like we zoomed all the way down into the quantum realm again.
That castle looks cool with its golden repair lines, like that Japanese art thing.
Pfft, it was supposed to be a jump scare, but I laughed out loud when Miss Minutes showed up. Because we were right about her knowing who's behind the TVA.
Niiiice, she offers Loki and Sylvie a place on the timeline, which must mean that He Who Remains views them as a real threat.
Creepy, the statues have clock faces. Hehe, "clock face".
Could there be any significance to Miss Minutes not being able to be in 2 places at once? I mean, we already knew that she's a (somewhat?) real being. Hey, what if she's not an AI? She could just be from a cartoon universe.
Huh, there are 4 Time Keeper statues and one is smashed. Interesting!
IT'S KANG AFTER ALL! It's funny, usually I'm all "But creators lie!" when they say so-and-so won't turn up or whatever, but this time I actually bought it. Probably because of lack of emotional investment. So far I like him. What a chill villain.
I can't help noticing that his apple looks green. Could be a Granny Smith. Silly me thinks this might be a My Little Pony reference (because of Miss Minutes's voice actress), but if it's a reference, it's probably just to Doctor Strange.
So what did Renslayer read in the files Miss Minutes sent her that makes her still be the TVA villain?
Renslayer was the teacher! Or running the school, actually. So people's names get changed in the Hex TVA, she used to be Rebecca Tourminet according to the certificate behind her!
"Eons of friendship." Oh wow, that long?!
From "Only one person gets free will, the one in charge." to going in search of free will. What a villain.
He Who Remains really was a normal human? A scientist? Is all of that history true? I can buy that he's a benevolent dictator. There definitely could be worse Variants.
He made his timeline the Sacred one, yet there's only one of him. If all these universes have to follow that timeline, there are bound to be more of his early version, the scientist. They must be too good (or their circumstances are) to start a war with each other. But if one of them veered off the path, they probably would have to be killed outright, because pruning might only send them to Alioth, they might learn how to use it and take over as the new He Who Remains.
Not that he would mind, if he's really looking for successors.
Okay, stupid question: Why should Kangs be so hard to deal with? Okay, admittedly at first they would be. Then, after you've analyzed enough timelines, you'd be able to tell when an early Kang is about to go bad, so you can kill him (better not let him anywhere near Alioth) before he goes bad and too powerful. I mean, what's a few Kangs against the countless masses of innocents or at least less bad people?! So I guess that would be Loki / Sylvie's new job.
Holy Threshold, Batman! The multiverse is reestablishing itself, although Loki and Sylvie aren't even touching or having a moment with each other. They just have to be in the same place for long enough, I guess.
Sylvie distrusts Loki, ouch!
Gotta love Loki's character development. Even though it makes him stand in the way of the multiverse being completely freed.
Oh god, a kiss (Does the music sound like it was inspired by Star Wars's Across the Stars or am I imagining it?). WTF?! I had to watch through my fingers. Ugh, this makes me hate everything, because they really only made the Lokis' sex fluid to have him not kiss a male Variant. Sure, you could argue that they wanted more women in the cast, but then I'd remind you that Sylvie is still the only female Loki we've seen or heard of. And the kiss/romance wasn't even necessary, as confirmed by the Threshold! The creators could have made those magical, Sacred-Timeline-destroying feelings platonic. Ugh, I hate that cliché of romantic love being the superior love.
Sylvie finishes her mission and with that unleashes the multiverse completely. Thank you! Look at those branches! So beautiful, I cried. Somewhere in there are they Fox X-Men.
He Who Remains talked about stuff that needs to happen to get them all in the right mindset to finish the quest. I've heard theories that everything that happened, including his death, was manipulated by him to go that way. Yeah, he was suspiciously calm and inactive while the multiverse was unfolding and when facing death. But if that's how he wanted things to go, why would he send Miss Minutes to offer a deal to Loki and Sylvie? It wasn't necessary, they were already in the right mindset. Was it just about stalling, to keep them there longer?
And what did He Who Remains get out if it? Why would he want more and worse Variant of himself? Or was the point to die? Was he serious about being tired? He said he didn't want to be reincarnated (Not that it would stack up, since I'm pretty sure he wouldn't remember that previous life. But I guess just the thought of a rebooted version of him living like that again is too much.), maybe for that he needs more Kangs. Maybe he doesn't consider the bad ones himself, so if one of them ruled the multiverse, it would be okay? Maybe the more bad ones there are, the fewer good ones will be there? Or Kang would just prune those.
I don't get why he can't just end the TVA. That would let the multiverse create itself all on its own. Unless that would have been too slow and wouldn't have branched enough by the time of his death. So He Who Remains needed the Loki-Sylvie-nexus-event magic to make a very diverse multiverse quickly.
I know, I'm desperately trying to find answers with too little information, but it's not my fault this ended with way fewer answers than your usual season finale. The only thing that was resolved was Sylvie's quest.
I totally failed to get the hint (possibly was distracted by the relief that the branches had reached Redline) when Mobius and B-15 hadn't taken down the TVA yet and instead stood in front of the monitor looking worried about the multiverse and then worried some more in the archives. Then Mobius doesn't recognize Loki. Holy shit, Sylvie accidentally sent Loki to a different branch! Heh, that (What happens when when a universe splits and you try to dial its old address?) was one of the things I worried about for my beloved Maximoff multiverse twins (should we ever get to see that happen).
Oh, Kang is ruling this universe. But hey, there's also a TVA, maybe Loki can turn the workers against Kang and fight him. Not that I want Loki to have to stay there long. He needs to get back to his Mobius.
In conclusion: WHAT IS IT WITH THESE MARVEL SHOWS RIPPING MY HEART OUT?! Okay, F&WS hasn't wronged me, but the finales of WandaVision and now Loki sure did.
This was far more open-ended than I expected. I needed a bit of closure, just a small sense of accomplishment! Instead Loki, who has finally learned to trust, gets sorta betrayed by Sylvie (I'm glad that the multiverse was finally unleashed, but I had wanted Loki to play an active, enthusiastic part in that) and ends up in the wrong branch of the TVA where Mobius doesn't know him. So we end with him being all alone.
We're told Lokis always lose, so I think we can be forgiven for expecting that a part of the development this show would bring would be our Loki winning. Sure, indirectly he did, because now all the Lokis get to live according to their free will, but it would have been nice to leave our Loki with a direct win. Come on! Ugh, if I wanted to witness depressing stuff, I'd participate in real life!
