THE NEPHILIM RISING: the expanded tale.

Jul 09, 2011 10:26

If you found this, you're probably wondering about the OCs I played. Basically, they're from a project/story I'm working on that is heavily derived from Irish mythology (since Celtic mythology talks about giants frequently) but especially from the Book of Enoch. These OCs are known as a subspecies called "Nephilim", but also can be referred to as half-demons, as all of their fathers are now demonic in their own right. Each of these girls are tall, have huge appetites and are forever unstable, no matter their circumstances. Hell, if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask me, since this is constantly in the works!

As stated many times in awhitephantom's, shepaintsfire, and fuilarsa's profiles and backgrounds, the nephilim are a sub-species mixed with demon and human blood, but there's more to it than that.
POWERS:
Again, the nephilim are blessed with abnormal abilities that put them above humans, but not quite on the levels of their fathers. They can go a very long time without food, water, and sleep, as well excel in strength, the sixth sense, speed, excellent (if not insane) stamina, and carry a fast metabolism. It's said because they are born of human women, that an angel's blood is hard, if not impossible to carry. That these beings are not meant to have the same fantastic powers of fallen angels, because it's not meant to be in the control of human blood and those who possess it face a life of hardship. Particularly, the higher a demon/fallen angel was in rank in Heaven, their children would be more powerful than the regular ones. For example, the this list of Watchers (the fathers of the nephilim) explains their children would be above regular nephilim:

Araqiel taught humans the signs of the earth.
His children control the elements of the earth, able to manipulate any aspect of the earth and plants, creating poison.

Armaros in Enoch I taught men the resolving of enchantments.
Armaros' children are enchanting, manipulative, and cunning. More importantly, they can preform occult and dark magic. His name means "cursed one", which means they can easily curse others, even unintentionally bring misfortune... even to themselves.

Azazel taught men to make knives, swords, shields, and how to devise ornaments and cosmetics.
Gadriel taught the art of cosmetics.
He is the second leader of the Watchers and his children are deemed to be the most powerful. He has been cursed to have nothing but female children, all beautiful and seductive in their own right. All of Azazel's children excel in foresight, weapons, teleportation, "the thorn curse", and live longer. Most of his children are born from nobility and royalty. One of his most famous children was Cassandra. His children are associated with death and destruction and most of their predictions revolve around it. Conceived by violent means, his children are embodiments of despair and self-loathing.

Baraqel (Baraqiel) taught men astrology
Also have ties to the occult; his children have been the one who had advanced humanity in terms of astrology and prediction of the stars. Their father was able to once fill hearts with joy and reassurance, his children are capable of doing as such and this power in the wrong hands have led others in a false sense of joy that often lead them to despair by means of illusion and halucinations.

Chazaqiel (sometimes Ezeqeel) taught men the signs of the clouds
Able to manipulate elements of the weather around them. Either creating terrible drought or heat or monsoons of epic proportions. Able to suck the moisture out of anything they touch, even living people.

Sariel (also Suriel) taught mankind about the courses of the moon (at one time regarded as forbidden knowledge).
Aside from their father being associated with the moon, he is also regarded as an angel of death and of healing. To contrast the children of Shamsiel, they can control the elements of water and are gifted healers. While they can be gifted healers, they can also make wounds worse if they so chose it.

Samyaza (also Shemyazaz, Shamazya, Semiaza, Shemhazi, Semyaza and Amezyarak) is one of the leaders of the fall from heaven.
Next to the children of Azazel, they are the second strongest and also live the longest. His children are often tied to means of magic and occult, his most famous child being Myrddin Wylt. They are empathetic, able to pick up on emotions and feelings of others and either use it for good or pure manipulation. While Azazel's children are gifted in offensive force, children of Samyaza can reflect and manipulate any demonic energy around them, eventually controlling anyone who dare attack them and bend it to their will. Another one of his children is the nephew of Niall of the Nine hostages, Ciaran. Ciaran's ability to unite, charm, and manipulate demonic energy, he has in turned quite successfully united most of the half-demons of Ireland in campaign against humans.

Shamsiel, once a guardian of Eden, is a fallen angel who teaches the signs of the sun.
Shamsiel's children are the ones who can manipulate fire, strong in stature, very tall in appearance, warm, and capable of searing the souls of those they look into. The children of Shamsiel are also capable of detecting lies and truths in the eyes they look into, no one can lie to them without them knowing. Searing the soul of a victim will leave them blind and even mad. Some may have gone blind, but the ability to feel lies and truths can be passed onto them.

The lower the father was in terms of rank, the more mutated, uncontrolled, and ugly that nephilim will be. Not all of them are the same in appearance, the ones fathered by the ones above are the most skilled, feared, strong, and controlled.

Which isn't saying much, considering.

APPEARANCE:
All nephilim are tall. The average height, for a male nephilim wavers between 6'11" to 7'3". The females 6'5" to 6'7", thus they are deemed "giants". All are fair skinned, usually accompanied with white hair, most have pale blue eyes. There is an exception to the eyes, of course. Samyaza's children often have amber eyes, while Azazel's children have pure blood red, show casing their fathers' powers and former ranks. The ones from higher ranked angels are very attractive, while the ones born from lower angels are monstrous in appearance and even taller. If anyone wonders why they look the same, yes, there's a point to this, because angels are often regarded to look this way -- radiant and above men. And yes, this was influenced by Claymore and Devil May Cry.

TREATMENT:
The nephilim are either feared or sought after because of their powers. Most nephilim are treated with disdain and fear by humans, even worse -- killed, tortured, raped, beaten, enslaved, and manipulated by humans. Rarely, a demon will oversee the life of their children, so often times, the nephilim are left fatherless with a human family that either tries their best to raise them or hates them. This with how the outside world receives them, the nephilim are usually detached from the human world that they so long to fit in. Neither accepted by demons or humans, the nephilim have a band mentality, form together, and even continue the half-demon line by starting families with each other. Their race blossoms in areas where the Christian church cannot reach, like Ireland. If they're not feared, yes, many seek them out for their personal gains in wars, conflicts, and meager personal gains.

Because of this especially in Ireland, Ciaran, the nephew of Niall of the Nine hostages decided he wanted the throne of Connacht. Using his abilities, he has taken advantage of his kind's band mentality, despair, neglect, and anger, and promised them that they will finally be able to live on earth in peace. He encourages them to live how they want to live and yes, that means eating people. He believes forcing humans to accept them is the answer; interestingly enough, he also believes he's above humans by telling them not to harm innocents, women and children. By doing this, Ciaran believes he will win the heart over of humanity. So after the death of Niall of the Nine Hostages, Connacht is in near chaos with many nephilim rampaging the country side, tired of their mistreatment. Most sympathize if they don't involve themselves in battle. Others, like awhitephantom avoid it like the plague and fuilarsa here has been the only one to openly challenge it. So far.

The reaction to this rampage have been normal people either apart of former armies or groups like the Fianna who promised to rise up and wipe them all out. Before anyone wonders "yeah, how do you go about killing a superhuman race"? They have formed geasas with some members of the Tuatha de Dannan to make maters worse. But clearly the morale in this story and the law of this land, if you possess unnatural powers, they are not easy to control. With rampaging half-demons and humans bound to gods to have their own unnatural powers, things aren't exactly going too well. To make matters worse, the Tuatha de Dannan and Tylwyth Teg only encourage this conflict between races, taking side of neither.
