{ milk and toast and honey, and a bowl of oranges too }
cieran justice caelum, drew chastity caelum, eerin verity caelum.
He’s sitting at his breakfast, enjoying the solitude and understanding how very fleeting it is. The weather is nice, and he’s arrived early enough to get all his favorite food before its gone stale. He watches as people enter in ones and twos and meander through the buffet and into their seats. He’s reading a book, and absently sipping his mug of hot chocolate thinking that he really does hate mornings. The sound of a brisk footstep accompanied by a soft sound of a tray interrupts his thoughts, but he doesn’t look up. He hears the sound of a fork hitting a plate, and looks up at his sister. Every hair is in place, and she looks disgustingly chipper for the earliness of the hour. He notices her sawing a bit viciously into her stack of pancakes, the flash of her knife glittering menacingly. His eyebrow quirks a little at the liberal amount of syrup coating the pancakes, “You know you’ll get diabetes eating that much sugar everyday.”
She looks up at him with a blank stare, and bites into the section she has just cut. “You should be one to talk, your hot chocolate intake is enough to send a normal person into anaphylactic shock.”
“You don’t even know what that word means.” He sips his chocolate with a satisfied smack of the lips to spite her, “Poser.”
“Pedophile.” She shoots back, with an irritated flick of her head, “I’ve seen you hanging around the 2nd year dormitories.”
He takes the glass she’s offering him, and fills it with pumpkin juice for her, “At least I don’t flirt with poor Lupo, god it almost seems like you like him; and I don’t hang out around the 2nd year dormitories.”
“Mornin’ care bear, morning Drew.” He looks up to see Eerin plopping herself down across from then, her plates rattling as the tray hits the table. “Isn’t it a little early for you guys to be fighting already?”
“What it is, is too early for you to be so cheerful.” Drew replies sarcastically while eating her pancakes, a little bit more viciously then normal.
“Jeez don’t get your panties in a twist now.” Eerin mutters under her breath starting in on her French toast slathering liberal amounts of butter onto the innocent triangles of bread.
“If you eat that much butter you’re get fat Eerin.” Drew chides while rolling her eyes at the earlier remark. Out of habit she passes the jug of creamer to her younger sister to put in her coffee, while Cieran passes over the sugar.
“Look whose talking, how many trees did you have to kill to get that much maple syrup?” She stirs the cup of coffee purposely clanking her spoon as loudly as possible to annoy her elder sister.
“Girls calm down, no one likes a catfight this early in the morning.” Cieran interrupts the two before they can truly start down the warpath quieting the two girls down as if he had knocked their heads together. Calm reigned for a few moments until Drew started humming under her breath when Eerin joined snapping the beat for Drew. Cieran just shook his head used to his two sisters by now. No matter how much they pretended not to like each other it was clear that they never forgot they were family.
“Cieran, if you were a food you’d be milk and toast.” Eerin suddenly says mischievously offering her older brother her French toast. “Because you’re so homey and comfortable.”
“And you would be honey Eerin.” Drew joins in dousing the remains of the French toast in honey gold syrup. “Because you’re sweet and wholesome.”
“Thanks girls. Really.” Cieran sighs as he pulls the toast oozing in syrup closer to him. “I suppose you’re like oranges then Drew.”
He lightly tosses two oranges to his dark haired sister who deftly catches them before handing one to Eerin. “And why is that Cieran?”
“Because you’re acidic and sweet under that thick peel of yours.”
“God you guys are corny. I think I remember why I don’t eat breakfast with you guys now.”
“Morning Zachary!” Eerin choruses happily welcoming their cousin while Cieran scoots over to give him space. Drew just threw him an orange for a welcome before getting up with her tray. “Later guys, I’ve got some homework that I need to finish up before class. Enjoy the orange Zachary.”
“Gladly.”
