Thoughts on smart phones

forestmaster and I decided to give each other smart phones for Christmas. Neither of us have had smart phones before and we have only played with friends phones for a couple of minutes, so this is a new world for us. We ended up getting them a couple of weeks early so we have had a chance to play with them for the past couple of weeks. She ended up getting a ( Read more... )

Ben and I both use Evernote to keep our grocery lists now. It's great: we can add to them from our desks (via our webbrowser) and then access the lists from our smartphones in the store. No more lost slips of paper!

I have seen a lot of positive comments on Evernote, but so far I have just been using Apples Notes app. I have been toying with using Dropbox to be able to sync things like notes on any device, but I haven't gotten that ambitious yet. I can definitely see how the smart phone is hurting the Post-it industry-- and many other industries, too. Who would have predicted that stand alone GPS units would be replaced so quickly? So what is your most used app?

I've had a iPhone 3, 3g and now the 4s.
<3 them all.

And what apps do you find yourself using the most? Do you have notifications turned on for email and texts? How do you silence them at night?

I don't have notification for emails and my text tone is pretty simple-- I don't turn it off but it doesn't bother me.
I use the weather apps a lot (I have a bunch of them because I like to compare because I'm geeky about weather).
I use shazam and pandora a lot.
And our banking app because I can make mobile deposits.
I listen to a lot of NPR.. I use all the notes and reminders features... I don't have a fave but I know my brother uses Evernote a lot. I like red laser and quickscan. the urban spoon app is really fun if you guys eat out much.
Oh-- and Fandango gets used a lot.

Wow, I am amazed at how many people use Evernote on my f-list... either it is a really great program or I associate with a lot of anal retentive note taking types. ;)

forestmaster found my Urbanspoon app charming and amusing for about 30 seconds before the noise started grating on her nerves-- good thing I found the app notification noise slider before I was found strung up in the drapes. :)

I've had both android and iphone, and if you don't consider cost, the iphone far surpassed my android in every way. My iphone was an older one and my android is a fairly basic one.

Yay, you're alive. :) Long time no hear (or read). How was your Christmas? So far I like my iPhone more than forestmaster's Android, but then, I am a Mac fan to begin with. Did you see Apple is now offering their iPhone 3G for free with a 2 year contract? Not the latest and greatest iPhone, but something to consider in the future if you wish to go back to the iPhone again. :) Got any snow out in Utah right now? So far we have had surprisingly little snow here in Michigan this year... now that I have jinxed us...
