The Prancing Pony and a Plea for Help

Sep 18, 2010 17:20

Cross posting this since there are only three people reading my Dreamwidth journal and one of those is me.  And I need help - quickly.

I know, I know.  I don't post at my LJ for months on end, and then I have the sheer nerve to post asking for favours.

Here is the short version.

I'm away right now but will be home on Tuesday. I'm still not working so I can give it a read through and get back to you if I find any grammar mistakes.
Colleen

I'm grinning right along with you about your publication news! I knew I would read your stories in print one day but even I didn't expect it so soon. (I'm going to pre-order when I get home and look up the best format for my Nook..... And then wait impatiently until Oct. 30th!)

Thanks. That would be great. I'll be self editing all weekend and will look it over again on Monday night before sending it to you ready for your return on Tuesday ( ... )

I'm home! I was hoping to get home tonight but afraid to count on it. On top of having to pry myself out of the clutches of Aunt God She's Awful, I had idiot lights in my car go on. Since those are made for idiots like me, I worry about them so my car will go back to the garage for the fourth time in just over a month ( ... )

Thanks for letting me know. I am afraid you will have to PM me your email address again. I had to replace my hard drive a few weeks ago and although I remembered to back up my messages, I totally forgot my address book.

I seem to recall something on my publisher's mailing list about delays in putting things up at Barnes & Noble due to problems with the store, so you may have to wait a bit longer if those problems are still continuing. It is the only one that is having delays and is something to do with the store's difficulties.

The UK doesn't really do much for Halloween I'm afraid. Just another night with the very occasional group of kids coming around trick or treating.

Good luck with the car - ours is in the garage at the moment as well - some idiot backed into us and trashed the book and right rear lights.

I saw this plea for a beta and before I saw you already had a volunteer, I was considering offering to help. As I was considering my offer went back to the first chapter of Once in a Blue Moon just because I like it so much. I was skimming over the comments and one of your replies made me LOL. See the one hesitation I had in offering to beta is that I'm American. I'm almost positive that with grammar there wouldn't be much difference and I'm already familiar with how there are a few spelling differences and I am really good at catching typos. Anyway, your reply that made me LOL was where you said that sometimes you will accidentally use an Americanism that you picked up from U.S. TV shows and until just a few months before, you didn't know ass was American English. I decided then that betaing for you would not be a problem. However like I said I see you have someone. I just felt the need to share that. ;-)
By the way, I'm currently unemployed and as soon as I get some income I am buying your book! Congratulations!

Since I am without a proper editor for this particular story I am trying to get several people to look it over. Hopefully between everyone it will be as error free as possible. I have as well as werewolfsfan, I also have an author from my new publisher looking it over as well. If you have the time I would be really grateful for a third set of eyes to look it over.

Just PM me with your email address and I will send the draft over to you.

As for my book, I'm honoured that you would consider buying it. I know what it is like to be unemployed so I hope your job situation gets sorted to your liking.

I sent you my email address. Thank you for the for the empathy on the job hunt. I will be moving back in with my parents by the end of the month until I can get back on my feet. I will be using my fathers computer since they say there won't be room for mine. Considering the things I tend to read and comment on in this journal, sharing a computer makes me a bit nervous. I've considered just reading and commenting from my phone, but that gets a bit tedious.

Can only suggest clearing the history and the cookies and not letting it save your passwords or anything when using it. I am lucky that I don't have to share my pc with anyone.

You could also try getting a log in for your father's computer of your own, if that won't cause suspicion with the usual parent questions.

Since it is not being professionally edited, I think that the more people to look it over the better. If you want to send me a PM with your email address I will send it over to you.
