I read about synesthesia today. Apparently I have it.

taken from wikipedia:

"Synaesthesia (also spelled synesthesia); from the Greek (syn-) “union”, and (aesthesis) “sensation”; is the neurological mixing of the senses. A synaesthete may, for example, hear colors, see sounds, and taste tactile sensations. That means, the perception of one stimulus evokes a second perception......The most common forms of synaesthesia involve colour being assigned to letters, numbers, days of the week or (especially for musicians) musical keys.....
Synaesthesia is a real phenomenon: indeed, some people see colors when they hear or read letters and numbers (the most common form). Others taste and feel sounds, colors, and so forth.

A genuine type of Synaesthesia shows the following qualities:

it works like a dictionary: one stimulus always evokes a certain perception
the perception occurs involuntarily
the perceptions are individual: every Synaesthete has their "own" colors and shapes
the perceptions are irreversible: a 7 might evoke the color blue, but the color blue doesn't evoke a 7
the perceptions are permanent: they begin at child age and don't change throughout life.
....In synaesthesia's most common form (Grapheme-color synaenesthesia), individual letters of the alphabet, as well as numbers, are "shaded" or "tinged" with a color. The alphabet color pattern is different for every individual. Many synaesthetes report that they were unaware their abilities were special or unusual until they realized other people didn't have them."

I seriously thought that this was just something that everyone kindof did. like, think of yellow when they see a "C" for example. I do this all the time and It's stronger with some letters than others, and some words do this too. like, in french you can tell if a word is masculine or feminine by the way it's spelled, or the way it's used. Well I can tell if a word is green or orange in the same way. This happens with music to a certain extent, but with music it feels less like colours as in ideas, and more like colours as in intensities of light, but I guess they really are the same thing, just with music I don't see a different colour for each note. I feel it rather than see it, I don't see the colours but I feel the way I would if I were seeing different colours. Apparently it's more common amoung artists and musicians and the "creative" type.

I made these to show you all what I see: (8 is like a mixture of gold and green, but there really isn't a color that we can see that comes close enough)

synesthesia colorwheel:

monday=pinkish red
tuesday=grey blue
wednesday=every color, pale but not white
thursday=feels like ochre, looks like a warm greenish yellow
friday=feels like maroon, looks like bluegreen
saturday=rust
sunday=pale peach/white.

does anyone else do this?
