Smash hit film "GANTZ", still screening in the cinemas, has mobilized a total of more than 2.5 million viewers. We interviewed the leading actor Ninomiya Kazunari and Yoshitaka Yuriko about the behind-the-scenes and the 'Answer' of what will become the concluding installment of the series, "GANTZ PERFECT ANSWER".

- Amidst the flamboyant action scenes that continue to overwhelm the current piece, there are tender and sentimental scenes between Kurono and Tae, the woman who yearns for him. How did you create the atmosphere for such scenes?
Yuri: Ninomiya-san is extremely skilled. Made me think "As expected of a star".
Nino: W- wa- wait! (Laugh) What kind of answer is that? It's weird! (in Kansai dialect)
Yuri: (While ignoring Ninomiya's reaction) To put it in another way, his presence eased up the entire atmosphere of the filming set. He is able to naturally enter people's heart, swiftly caressing the parts that had become laden with holes, just like how the sand [in a pit] is smoothed out after a long jumper has landed on it. As the result, he made the set a pleasant place to be in.
Nino: No no! Likewise, I think that Yoshitaka Yuriko, as the only woman who didn't take part in any battles (lit. tatakawanai ningen no kouitten = the lone flower in a group who doesn't fight), had also become an oasis to the production staffs. There were moments where the spirits of everyone on the set were lifted up at the thought of "Tomorrow she's gonna come".

- Did you also personally feel such oasis-like tranquility thanks to her?
Nino: (Said flatly in a cheerful tone) Yes, I did.
Yuri: (Mutter softly) Monotone reply? Monotone reply?
Nino: (Laugh) Well, I was also indebted to Tae-chan both mentally and physically. Though it doesn't really have any bearing to the present movie "PERFECT ANSWER" since Tae-chan is also dragged into the battles, but in the previous piece, the day she came to the set automatically became the day when I didn't have to fight, so I was really grateful to her. Furthermore, since she's a person who intuitively knows how to interact with the adults by way of scolding, making jokes at them, and such, in the eyes of the adults who are not used to being scolded, that sort of treatment makes them happy, I think. With that sort of ambience [surrounding her], the way she's capable of altering the atmosphere of the set is what I thought I would like to learn from her.

- Is there any memorable experience among the scenes in which you appear together?
Yuri: As I thought, piggyback ride.
Nino: Yes, piggyback ride.
Yuri: While filming a scene in which we're escaping together, Ninomiya-san carried me on his back the whole time. I don't think I'll experience being carried on someone's back continuously for a long period of time ever again. I was able to sense his heartbeat, body temperature, heavy breathing, everything. It was the first time I had communication through someone's back. (lit. the first person I picked up communication with through the back)
Nino: Well, frankly, I somehow ended up hurting my neck.
Yuri: Yes, in the end, both your neck and waist became sore...
Nino: Well, even though I just barely made it, I'm glad I managed to pull it off!

- In contrast to the previous piece where you engage the aliens in a game-like battle, the highlight of the current piece lies in the real physical close-quarter combat, but.....
Yuri: I enjoyed the shoot where we were suspended on the wires and hauled upwards. Because I've always wanted to fly in the sky to begin with. Though, when I glanced downwards, we were just merely being hauled up by the crew from action department (Laugh). But that weightless sensation that we felt as if we're soaring in the air gave off a pleasant feeling, right?
Nino: Eh? I've never particularly wanted to fly in the sky (Laugh). I've experienced being suspended on wires in Arashi concerts but it was done in the presence of audience fluttering about beneath us, which is completely different from what I did during the shooting. Of course, there were enjoyable aspects but in the end, I had the impression of it being frightening, honestly-speaking (Laugh).

- Please give us one word or two about the original ending of the movie
Yuri: This time, I thought that things became kinda flabby and out of control right around the middle stage. But in the end, it made a proper landing that promptly made me think "Amazing".  It gives off a pleasant and "well-rounded" feeling.
Nino: Without steering away from the simplicity that 1+1 is equal to 2 no matter how hard we try, so as to not make it become a 3 or a 4. I feel that we have that sort of ending. Amidst the entanglement of elements that are extremely inexplicable, where we arrived at in the end is really pleasing, I think. Conversely, we acted out the roles while thinking "Let's make the route to the ending more bewildering" and while carrying the feeling of anxiety on our backs. And I think that for now, to the sphere of determination = Gantz, that is the 'PERFECT ANSWER'.
