Character Information
Name: Lightning Farron
Fandom:
Timeline Summary: Before returning to Cocoon in XII, Post the events of Dissidia 012.
Are you importing your character from another game? No.
Background: I'm no one's slave! | Bring it on! I don't need a second chance!
Personality: Outwardly (and, granted, somewhat inwardly as well), Lightning is a lone wolf. She's tough and overtly blunt, saying exactly what's on her mind, with little thought to the feelings of those around her. Her words are curt, clipped and to the point, and she very rarely waits for people to finish speaking before walking away from a conversation. One could even say she comes across as quite rude. Her temper doesn't flare easily, save when it comes to certain aspects of her life such as her sister or anything to do with being played for a fool. Those she considers close friends or family have a loyal soldier at their side for life. Lightning doesn't take to betrayal well, but as long as you remain faithful and steadfast, she'll fight for you and with you until her death.

The tough exterior belies the compassionate person Lightning is underneath. After the death of their parents, Lightning took on the role of raising Serah, pushing herself to become a mature adult much quicker than normal so that Serah would have a strong person to rely on. This emotional strength is a blessing and a curse -- while it enabled her to keep going within the Guardian Corps, rising quickly to the role of Sergeant, it pushed the only family she had away without realizing it until it was too late. Guilt isn't something that drives Lightning (though it did briefly, to be fair), but then again, when it comes to Serah, it's difficult to say that it doesn't, either. Serah is Lightning's weak spot, her only family and the one person Lightning would do anything to protect. Serah's not the only one Lightning feels this way about, mind, but she's definitely the most important one.

Lightning is also unable to abide idiocy. Whether it be the type that most 'comedic relief' characters use, or the type of person who rushes headfirst into danger without a plan (we're looking at you, Snow), Lightning is more likely to sigh and rolls her eyes at their antics at best, and engage in physical altercations at worst (though this is usually provided that said victim of her Falcon Punch has sufficiently riled her up, first). It's not to say that she doesn't have a sense of humor, but that Lightning takes most things much more seriously than most people, more than likely due to her sudden desire and need to grow up quickly. She smiles, she laughs, but she doesn't do it often, and generally only in the presence of those she considers close friends or family.

Losing her memories in the cycles never really bothered Lightning; she was more concerned with obtaining her crystal and going home. She remains standoffish and cool, but is much more likely to let others in, as evidenced by the fact that all the Warriors of Cosmos tend toward calling her 'Light'. She's learned quickly to trust her allies, and doesn't take to betrayal lightly at all. Kain and the Warrior of Light's actions shock and surprise her, but even though she doesn't understand, it pushes her to do what she feels needs to be done. Above all, Lightning is even more likely to get herself killed in the line of duty if it means saving the people she cares about.

Powers, Skills, and Abilities:

l'Cie: As a l'Cie, Lightning can cast various magics, including healing spells and thunder based elemental spells. She also has a personal Eidolon named Odin, that she can summon on command. Odin has two forms -- that of a humanoid and that of a horse, which Lightning can use as a mode of transportation.

Gunblade; Unlike Squall's gunblade, Lightning's gunblade (the Blazefire Saber model) is almost literally so, able to switch to rifle form to sword for with no more than the flick of a wrist and the pull of a trigger. Within the world of Final Fantasy XIII, this particular model of weapon (also called a 'Dualweapon' by some people) is wielded by only the most skilled of soldiers. With the right parts and tools, Lightning can upgrade the weapon to become more powerful, but the availability of such components in Aliunde is more than likely limited.

Grav-con Unit; A small device implanted on the thumb and index finger of Lightning's left hand, it uses AMP technology (a scientific magic, of sorts, used by PSICOM and the Guardian Corps) to enable Lightning to control the space-time around her, enabling her to jump from severe heights, quicken her speed significantly, and leave 'blobs' of space-time for her allies to land within to prevent injury. Lightning activates this device by snapping the fingers of her left hand, where she is covered in a transparent light that remains until Lightning disperses the effect. The 'blobs' of space-time that she is able to leave behind are a bright, electrical blue, in color.

Lightning also now has the ability to summon Odin's blades for a more powerful attack, though the duration is brief, and can also summon her ultimate weapon when she's absorbed enough magical energy.

Samples
First Person: [ She looks serious, if a little uncomfortable, and she's seated inside the Inn where she, Fang and Hope are currently stationed, her gunblade drawn and across her lap in its blade form. She's not very good at speeches to rouse the masses -- that's Snow's job -- but she's going to try anyway, and when she speaks, she speaks clearly and with only some hesitation. ]

My name is Lightning Farron. I'm an ex-Sergeant of the Bodhum Guardian Corps, a sort of.. police force for the city I'm from in my home world. [ She swallows. ] I'm also a l'Cie. I'm the one who accidentally laid waste to the shopping district of Lindblum, and I'm here today to recruit those interested in stopping the woman who gave me those powers against my will.

Ultimecia needs to be stopped, and I know there are others out there who want to stop her, too. I'll do it by myself if I have to.

My team and I are stationed in Dollet. If you're interested, tell me here.

[ And with that, she settles back in her chair to wait. ]

Third Person: Kain's words echoed within her mind as she stared at the oncoming wave of manikins, and Lightning quashed any doubt she had left in her mind. There was still guilt about dragging the rest of them into this, into what she felt was her responsibility but surprisingly, the dragoon was right-- they couldn't go back.

All the could do was face foward. Lightning steeled herself and charged forward, the last into the fray but soon taking point, shooting and slashing and hacking at manikins with her gunblade. All there was, was battle. All she could do was hope that no matter what happened, this gave them the chance they needed to win.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Yuna fall, then Laguna.. and still she pushed herself, mentally biting back her need to go check on them. She knew they weren't okay, and she knew there was nothing she could do.

Odin's blades were knocked out of her hands, and Lightning fell to one knee, gritting her teeth. They just kept coming, and endless wave and they were no more closer to the portal to the Rift then they had been when they started.

They'd lost, here. The only one left..

She prayed for the warrior left behind.

And then she fell.
