character; Lightning Farron
series; Final Fantasy XIII
age; 21
class; Red Mage/Summoner
special abilities;
Gunblade; Unlike Squall's gunblade, Lightning's gunblade (the Blazefire Saber model) is almost literally so, able to switch to rifle form to sword for with no more than the flick of a wrist and the pull of a trigger. Within the world of Final Fantasy XIII, this particular model of weapon (also called a 'Dualweapon' by some people) is wielded by only the most skilled of soldiers. With the right parts and tools, Lightning can upgrade the weapon to become more powerful, but the availability of such components within the world of Gaia is more than likely limited.

Grav-con Unit; A small device implanted on the thumb and index finger of Lightning's left hand, it uses AMP technology (a scientific magic, of sorts, used by PSICOM and the Guardian Corps) to enable Lightning to control the space-time around her, enabling her to jump from severe heights, quicken her speed significantly, and leave 'blobs' of space-time for her allies to land within to prevent injury. Lightning activates this device by snapping the fingers of her left hand, where she is covered in a transparent light that remains until Lightning disperses the effect. The 'blobs' of space-time that she is able to leave behind are a bright, electrical blue, in color.

Odin; Upon her arrival, Lightning will not be able to summon the Eidolon known as Odin, due to the way Gaia works. However, as a l'Cie, in her world, Lightning has the ability to summon Odin to aid her in battle. He will fight with her and take orders from her as a comrade in arms. He uses lightning/thunder based magic.

history; I'm no one's slave.
personality;

Outwardly (and, granted, somewhat inwardly as well), Lightning is a lone wolf. She's tough and overtly blunt, saying exactly what's on her mind, with little thought to the feelings of those around her. Her words are curt, clipped and to the point, and she very rarely waits for people to finish speaking before walking away from a conversation. One could even say she comes across as quite rude. Her temper doesn't flare easily, save when it comes to certain aspects of her life such as her sister or anything to do with being played for a fool. Those she considers close friends or family have a loyal soldier at their side for life. Lightning doesn't take to betrayal well, but as long as you remain faithful and steadfast, she'll fight for you and with you until her death.

The tough exterior belies the compassionate person Lightning is underneath. After the death of their parents, Lightning took on the role of raising Serah, pushing herself to become a mature adult much quicker than normal so that Serah would have a strong person to rely on. This emotional strength is a blessing and a curse -- while it enabled her to keep going within the Guardian Corps, rising quickly to the role of Sergeant, it pushed the only family she had away without realizing it until it was too late. Guilt isn't something that drives Lightning (though it did briefly, to be fair), but then again, when it comes to Serah, it's difficult to say that it doesn't, either. Serah is Lightning's weak spot, her only family and the one person Lightning would do anything to protect. Serah's not the only one Lightning feels this way about, mind, but she's definitely the most important one.

Lightning is also unable to abide idiocy. Whether it be the type that most 'comedic relief' characters use, or the type of person who rushes headfirst into danger without a plan (we're looking at you, Snow), Lightning is more likely to sigh and rolls her eyes at their antics at best, and engage in physical altercations at worst (though this is usually provided that said victim of her Falcon Punch has sufficiently riled her up, first). It's not to say that she doesn't have a sense of humor, but that Lightning takes most things much more seriously than most people, more than likely due to her sudden desire and need to grow up quickly. She smiles, she laughs, but she doesn't do it often, and generally only in the presence of those she considers close friends or family.

VIDEO
[ It seems she's unaware of being recorded at first, and the camera is at a funny angle as Lightning holds on to it, watching something with a look of mild confusion on her face. ] Ku..po..?

[ Its then that she looks down and brings the phone up to examine it, still unaware of being recorded. ] A phone, huh.. Is this the work of the fal'Cie? But why would Barthandalus..

[ She frowns, and puts the phone in her pocket, the screen going dark as she does so. ]

They'd arrived in Pulse with a sense of purpose almost, and Lightning had gone ahead of Snow and Sazh, scouting for the makeshift party. Fang and Vanille had opted to stay behind, though Lightning herself wasn't sure why. More than likely, she mused to herself, dropping from where she'd been standing atop a large ruin, to make sure Hope stayed out of trouble. He'd been pretty insistent that he come along with the group, but Lightning had put her foot down (almost literally) and told him no.

She couldn't let him get caught up in anything they might run into. Pulse, while not the literal Hell those of Cocoon had made her believe it was for so long, was still dangerous, filled with monsters and killer plants that Lightning, despite having been a member of the Corps, had never seen. It threw her off a bit, and she wasn't sure she was alright with that. So better to let Hope stay behind, close to camp, where he couldn't get hurt.

The soft sound of leaves rustling pricked at her ears, and Lightning instantly tensed, drawing the Blazefire Saber from it's holster. Two careful steps forward, and Lightning reached forward slowly, lifting the offending rustling branch up and-

A rodent of some sort, frozen in place out of fear before fleeing off into the underbrush. Lightning sighed, letting the branch drop, and re-holstered her saber.

No humans. No monsters in this area. Nothing. Lightning turned around and began heading back the way she came, towards the ruins she'd climbed over.

Did they come to Pulse for nothing?
