I've had two VAIOs, one laptop and one desktop, and they both worked perfectly for years (until I spilled coffee on the laptop...). Never had any trouble with them and I'd definitely buy one again if I could afford it. I loved the screen so much that I bought two Sony LCD monitors for my current desktop, which is a Dell hand-me-down from Sean (still functioning near-perfectly after four years, despite heavy usage for computer animation).
Ah, I remember the coffee spill -read about in in your LJ. Strawberry was its name?... yeah, I suppose if I don't do what Brooke dows - that is, down load way more illegal programs than is health - I should be good. But I've checked both now, and Dell's cheaper than VAIO. XD;
Oh, really? That's great news since I'm going into computer animation, too.
d00d, I pretty much back up my art via gmail; I find it hard to fill up 2732 MB. It may not be the 40 gigs you need.... but that's what multiple gmail accounts are for?
Heey I have a Toshiba. >.> Granted I've only had it for a year, but it's worked perfectly so far. ^.^;
Although I guess I did initially have bizarre problems with the keyboard... every time I typed a capital A, B, or N with my left shift key (not the right! just the left) it would automatically insert a return. XD;; Eheh. All better now, though. ::pats lappytop::
Good luck backing everything up. That's always such a pain to do. x.x
Well, I'll tell you this. I have two Dells. The first one was mine, and dad used our old 9 year old Pentium I with a 20GB harddrive in it. (Yes, it DID survive that long, I'm good huh?) Anyway, dad complained it was too slow, yadiya, and I told him I had it for 9 years, the least he could do was put up with it as much as I did.
So after much friendly bantering, I gave him my computer after I backed up everything and reformatted, and then I bought a new computer that's slightly upgraded from his, not that huge of a difference. Double the RAM, larger harddrive, and 17" LCD whilst his is a 15" LCD. The two inches makes a huge difference apparently, because he JUST got a 19" LCD as an early father's day gift for me.
(OMG, it sounds like I throw around money like it's nothing. I don't. It's because my parents make me pay for everything)
Anyway, Dell's been pretty damn reliable, so I'd suggest it if you don't feel like building your own computer.
Yeah, it's not a good idea to build your own notebook, but I could buy a Dell and then jack it up with other stuff - it'd also mean I'd pay less at one time which would be good.
WHen I get the external, space shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.
