Review - The Descent

Okay, guys, I managed to get my hands on free advance screening tickets to the Descent. It's a horror movie about six cave-eploring women, and that's all I will say about the plot - there's not much for me to expand on, so I won't spoil it for you.

Personally, I like horror movies that are at least mildly different from very expected plots. However, this was another "characters walk into somewhere dark with creepy creatures." The characters a pretty two-dimensional and each easily described in one word - even the protagonist's emotional change is minimal and there is little focus on her. There are maybe two or three sub-plots that are just as cliched as the main plot. They are poorly expressed and rarely expanded on.
As for the atmosphere, it can be described in one word: Gollum. The CG is pretty decent and slimy, but if you want to see something more impressive, go check out Pirates of the Carribbbean: Dead Man's Chest and stare at Davy Jone's face for awhile.
So, is it going to scare you? Myself, I hate scary movies, and this movie wasn't that shocking. Every event could be predicted - the only adrenaline rush came from things literally popping out of the walls. Nevertheless, the most I could see was the light they had on their miner's caps - everything else was just dark. I began to mix up the characters because they all started to look the same.
If there is a redeeming factor, it's that the Appalachian mountains are very pretty when you're not stuck underground. Or, you could go see it if you like moderately attractive women getting wet and bloody, but you can only half-see them anyhow.

Overall Rating: C-

I think I need to draw to make up for the three hours I blew. This thing on hair growth I'm now watching on TV is more entertaining.
