Kat glanced over as Conner and Ethan cleaned up the mess they’re made from the “Gingerbread War of 2004”. Pieces of the army had been thrown in different directions, including various teammates’ hair to which Trent and Kira weren’t complaining too much. Mainly because Kira had already throw a full cookie at both of them in retaliation. Of course, Kat wasn’t certain if Conner’s eating the pieces really counted as cleaning, but at least it was getting it off the furniture. She sighed and glanced at Hayley who shrugged. “It’s normal.”

“Tommy doesn’t mind them throwing cookie pieces around his house?” Kat asked and Hayley smiled.

“I never said that. I said that it’s normal,” she answered before turning back to the new laptop she’d been given for the holiday. They’d decided to celebrate Christmas slightly early that year so that they could spend the actual day with their families. Kat had had to come in sooner than she’d expected and Tommy had needed to run to the store for various things he’d forgotten for the dinner all of them were having, leaving her to fend off four teens with several questions such as: wanting to know her relationship to Tommy, wanting embarrassing stories from his youth, wanting to know how long she was staying, wanting to know if he was moving after the year was over, and various other things that she was unsure of how to answer. Fortunately, Hayley had dove in and saved her from their questions and told them to go do something else.

“I’m back!” Tommy called out as he entered the house, carrying the bag. Conner nearly mobbed him as he took the bag.

“Did you get the eggnog?” He asked.

“Yes, Conner,” Tommy answered. He glanced over at Kat, looking sheepish. “Sorry it took so long.”

“Don’t worry, Doctor O!” Ethan said. “We took care of her for you.”

Tommy’s face paled and he looked at Kat who was trying not to laugh. His mind was covered in ideas and thoughts of what they could have done when Kat gently put her hand on his. “It’s okay, Tommy.”

He reached over and she stood up, letting him hold her. “Sorry, Kat,” he whispered.

“They’re not so bad, Tommy. They care about you. Kira even threatened me if I hurt you and Conner wanted to know my intentions. It didn’t help that Ethan and Trent were right behind him looking just as stern,” Kat said with a giggle. Tommy groaned again. “You should think you’re lucky. They’re good kids.”

“Now,” Tommy muttered, but after a minute, he did smile. “Yeah, I guess they are. Remind me to buy Hayley a second gift. I’m assuming she’s the one that told them to back off?”

“Yes,” Kat answered. He nodded and continued to hold her. After a minute, he realized that it was a little quiet. He glanced up to see all of his students looking back at him. Finally, Conner spoke up.

“You know, we have some mistletoe hanging around for a reason…” he started, but stopped when his teacher glared at him. “Or not.”

“Conner…!” Tommy growled and the four raced off. Tommy sighed and started to turn back to Kat when he noticed the room covered in cookie pieces. “What happened to my house?!”

“Well, Tommy, maybe I should tell you about the Gingerbread War of 2004,” Kat started, hoping that would give the teens enough time to escape.
