LISTENING TO THE RADIO IS ACTUALLY INFORMATIONAL

Aug 25, 2011 21:51

Just heard an actual British person actually say, "Oh, my word". It's like witnessing an Australian saying they're about to 'put some shrimp on the barbie' or a Southerner say "Howdy". In other words, it's equivalent to living in a beautiful world where Amusing Cultural Stereotypes exist.

i am that american.

When I went to Canada, I never heard a single Canadian say "eh?" but when I went to visit these caves in Oregon with some friends, right when we got out of the car we heard this Canadian mom say "eh?" and I was like AHAHAHAH THEY DO DO IT YESSSSSS!

do you think, when you were in canada, they could tell you were american and therefore tried to hide their linguistic idiosyncrasies

they probably let their guard down in the caves because all canadians are actually bat people

maybe they thought you were one idk

you'll never hear an Australian say 'shrimp on the barbie' because the use of shrimp in a delicious seafood context is an Americanism that doesn't exist there.

fun fact!

(unless they're being extremely cutting to gullible American tourists, of course)

prawns are like baby cthulhus

you don't eat prawns because they'll probably infect you with eldritch abomination

shrimp, on the other hand, is edible, especially with lemon

(i am respectful of dialectic differences, but i enjoy making fun of countries, which could be a paradox)

(australia sounds cool, though, because it seems like you all like mockery, which is nice)
