hmmm......well...here's something that will really get your noodle later:
What if the color orange isn't actually orange. Back in the day, when people were figuring out the color of oranges, they could've gotten it wrong. Maybe oranges were actually the color Znebe... And now, when we think things are orange, they could actually be the color Znebe. Perhaps we drink Znebe juice for breakfast, and the squash that we make into pies for halloween is actually the color Znebe. RZY G BIV (Red, Znebe, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet). the Znebe ranger. Znebe Sorbet. Znebe soda.
if we lived in C land, that would fix the problem, but I guess real life isn't that simple, so we're just going to have to go around calling things orange when they are really znebe.
Anyway, your point is that words could be anything else and still mean the same thing, which isn't really that creative. My point on the other hand, revisits a commonly overlooked fact: the fact that the color orange and the fruit have the same spelling.

Are oranges called oranges because of thier color, or did they name the color after the fruit?
